AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and thanks for hanging around for the full run down on Bali’s surf and weather conditions for today. I went down to suss out the waves on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban at 6.00am and to me wave height looked slightly smaller than yesterday. But there was still a few smallies in the waist to head range coming through between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The wind was coming outta the ESE-SE @ 6-10knot and clean off-shore from Legian to Uluwatu. The tide was still running out at the time and Middle Reef was looking the best for a paddle out the front. But by the time I was heading home for some coffee and get my trolling gear together there were 3 boats full of surfers heading out towards all three main sections. The baliwaves fishing boat hit the water around 8.00am and headed South towards Uluwatu . Going past Balangan there was at least 12 surfers in the water and wave height was looking around waist to shoulder high at best. At Dreamland there was something like 20+ surfers in the water and the majority were on mini mals (if that says anything). Even at Bingin where wave height woulda been in the waist high class there was still half a dozen or more surfers out for a paddle. Uluwatu was by far the best location for a surf today, wave height was a more respectable 2-4ft with 25+ surfers spread from Temple ’s down to the Racetrack . An I did get a couple of side on views of surfers slotted in the barrel. By this time the wind was up in the 10-18knot class and howling out on the open ocean. So with one 12kg Wahoo in the boat I decided to head back home to Tuban. Weather wise it’s been hot and sunny all day and still is now at 4.00pm. Tomorrow for sure I’ll be heading down to Uluwatu with the 600mm and SLR so tune in to the baliwaves.com Sunday Session for a look at some fresh photos from Ulu. I’m sure there was something else I wanted to tell ya’s but that’ll do us for now anyway. See ya tomorrow down at Uluwatu at Surya Cafe ! Our man Pierre has also loaded another surf report from his travels along with a few photos included so check out his Readers Report for that. Plus the lads from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Menatawai island chain have got more on their Mentawai islands report page. Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Onky sms’d through what’s happening over at Lakey Peak and say’s that wave height has dropped down into the 2-3ft (head high) out on “The Peak”. There were 15 surfers in the water at 7.00am and another 4 riders over on Lakey Pipe . He even made the trek down to Periscopes for us but reckon’d it was too small to surf down there. Not the usual clean and glassy conditions for the boys this morning with a touch of cross-shore Tradewind at first light. The total number of visiting surfers in the Lakey Peak area has increased a touch to 80.
For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
