**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning friends and thanks for tuning in for the run down on todays surfing and weather conditions here in Bali . I got off to a bit of a late start this morning due to few too many drinks at the Dewi Sri Restaurant last night with a table of 12 friends of the baliwaves. But I still made it down for the surf recon at 7.00am for ya’s. Wave height has settled down a bit more this morning but still ranging around 3-5ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Right . There was still plenty of water covering the reef from the early morning High Tide of 2.1mtrs. Kuta Reef was looking the most popular again but no as busy as it ended up yesterday with a crowd of around 60 surfers. Today there was plenty of waves going through un-ridden, the set waves were around 3-4ft+. Middle Reef still has some solid double over head waves breaking but a lot of them were just close outs. Airport Left had some surfers in the water, and similar in size to KR. There woulda also been a few sly waves breaking around the other side of the Airport runway on Airport Rights . Bugger all wind earlier but what there was was coming outta the NW and on-shore . But now at 9.00am it’s already starting to swing around to the ESE-SE and off-shore again. Weather wise out there conditions are perfect, lots of blue sky and we’ll be heading for a max temperature up in the early 30’s on the Celsius scale. The water temp isn’t bad either at 22 C. Ok yesterday I got tied down and couldn’t make it down to Padang Padang for the Rip Curl Trials , but Dewa Made was down there and reckoned there was some shit hot surfing going down. It wasn’t your all time perfect Padang Padang but there were some 5-6 footers for the boys to get into. Instead we ended up with these photos from Balangan courtesy of one of the boys from Home Base, Irish Steve. Like I mentioned the other day I’ve got a lot of stuff happening at the moment making plans for next month when old Slim is finally gunna be tieing the knot. Back on the surfing trail and I had a good look at the swell charts again yesterday and there’s certainly no shortage of swell in the Indian Ocean at the moment. It looks like we’ve still got at least 2 more back to back swells in transit heading to Bali . Ok that’s me for now I wanna go down and test out the new 1.6 x converter on the Cannon XL2 and see how close I can get to Kuta Reef with her. Dan from the Super Bank has also sent ya’s through some new photos and surf report and I’ll have those on-line for ya’s in another 10 minutes. Have a good one out there what eva ya got on today. And if your not on your way to Bali then ya better stick close to the Baliwaves.com ok. Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Onky has sent us through the news on surfing conditions over at Lakey’s, via sms. He reckons that wave height has backed off a touch from yesterdays 5-8 foot and back in the 4-6ft range on Lakey Peak this morning. The wind was slightly on-shore but surfing conditions were still clean and glassy. There was 20 surfers out surfing the perfect left and rights of Lakey Peak and another 10 surfers riding Lakey Pipe . The early morning High Tide saw quite a few surfers making the 2 kilometer trek down the beach towards Periscope’s . With the start of the High tide’s through the AM the total number of surfers visiting the area has jumped back into the 120 range. Also happening over at Lakey Peak next month the annual Dompu Pro open surfing contest will be happening from the 13th to 15th of August . All surfers are welcome to get over there and compete ! For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
