Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands. July 23rd surf report . It was obvious from first light that our new swell was filling in. 4 Bobs had some nice waves coming through and the conditions were alright with the light northwest winds that were blowing. Some of our guests got on it early to get some waves under their belt right away. The rest of us ate a little breakfast then headed out to Rifles to see what was going on. The wind was a little side shore, but it was still fairly glassy and there were some overhead sets so we went out. The swell was forecast to increase throughout the day so we parked a boat next to the line up with food and drinks and stayed there the whole day. The winds were light and variable, turning southwest in the late afternoon which is a good wind for there, and conditions really got good then. The waves slowly got bigger hour by hour and there were some pretty sick barrels by the afternoon. Not as good as the other day, but pretty darn good. I saw a few sick tube rides. I will try to get some pictures posted later. Some of our guests surfed John Candy’s in the afternoon and said it was good fun, sets going almost double overhead. Others surfed 4 Bobs which was overhead and pretty darn good as well. Forecasts say bigger waves tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands. July 22nd surf report The wind was out of the northwest this morning. Our first boat headed for Bankvaults. The winds were not ideal, but there was no one out and there were some overhead sets so they were on it. The second boat headed to Bankvaults as well. The conditions were improving by late morning and the waves were getting a little bigger. Rasta got some really good barrels. It’s funny, waves almost seem to cooperate with the really good surfers like Rasta. The waves today seemed to open up just for him! In the afternoon, we headed back to Bankvaults. It was a little bigger than the morning and there was still no one out. The conditions were still less than ideal with the west bump in the waves, but it was fun. Looking for bigger waves tomorrow.
