Super Bank / Australia; 25th July 07
Good morning, Selamat pagi, or “good whatever time of day it is” in whatever part of the world you’re in.
Well the Superbank took everyone by surprise yesterday morning the 24th and turned on some beautiful little kegs for those who were on to it and got up early.
Yes that’s right folks! There were actually a few uncrowded waves at the most crowded wave in the world!! Well…. for a couple of hours anyway, by 10am word was out and it was packed again. And when I say uncrowded I mean 15 – 20 locals, which is the equivalent of 30 or more non-locals…. if you get my drift.
Asher Pacey, Jevon Harvey, Haig Riddle, One of the Harrington twins (I can never tell them apart) and Bruce Lee (Billabong team manager) were amongst the lucky ones who got out of bed early and scored.
I got down there about 9.30am and shot over 200 pics in 45 minutes. It wasn’t breaking right through but just on the Snapper section of the Super bank.
Check out photo number 7 and 8 Asher Pacey’s amazing stall in the barrel where he was almost laying down behind his board…he made it!!. Number 9 Jevon Harvey’s awesome below sea level barrel …he made that as well!! But my favourite is the guy in number 10 who has taken off on a sand dredging monster and then tried to run away from it on what looks like dry sand …he didn’t make it!!!
After getting enough shots for the report I then bolted home to get my water camera because as you can see from the photos, in the morning it’s not so great for shooting because of the sun behind the waves factor. But from the water it can be great lighting. Unfortunately for you guys my water rig is film so I wont have the shots until a few days time.
But old lens legend Martin Tullemans has come to the rescue and is going to modify my water housing for a digital camera, which means In the near future I’ll be able to pass on some quality water shots to you. On the same day I get them.
Later in the day Dean Morrison was out there ripping just off the plane, fresh from his 3rd place at the Billabong pro in South Africa and got one of the sandiest, deepest, longest barrels I’ve seen at that size.
Today’s the 25th and the sun is out and the winds a perfect light offshore and from west-southwest. It’s predicted to get up to 10-15kts from the SE, then go NE later in the day.
Swell size is small at around 1-2ft from the Southeast.
Down south on the Tweed Coast there should be some great beach break waves today with this wind and swell direction, also Duranbah and on the North end of the Gold Coast the beachies should be firing.
There are still tiny ones on the Gold coast points if you’re keen.
High tide:
4.05 am – 0.89 m
5.20 pm – 1.35 m
Low tide:
9.59 am – 0.33 m
11.59 pm – 0.45 m
Water temp: 19 c
Air temp: 12-21 c
Things are looking pretty much the same for the rest of the week but according to forecasts there may be a little bump in the swell size for the weekend.
A few guys have been asking me about photos from previous reports that they missed out on seeing. Just a reminder if you go to the reports section on the left menu click on archives then in the drop down box select Super bank and you will see all the past reports listed by date.
Feel free to use these pics for your “own personal use only”. All we ask is that you do not remove the labels that are on them. (www.baliwaves.com etc).
Also if you think you were surfing on any of these days at the time of these photos. You can contact me through my site www.OceanArtwork.com for the Super bank report photos or contact Slim for any other pics you see on baliwaves.com
All for now
