**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hello again folks and just letting ya’s know that after hanging out down the beach watching the Outer Reefs for the last hour and a half, that we won’t be doing Padang Padang today after all. Earlier around sunrise wave height was already looking smaller than what it was last night down to 3-5ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The tide has just turned and starting to run back in for a 2.3mtr High @ 1.00pm and Kuta Reef is showing some real good potential for some perfect waves, maybe around 9.00-10.00am. There were already half a dozen surfers out there but the tide was still too low and the wind coming outta the NNE @ 2-4knot . Middle Reef was still delivering some solid 4-5ft+ waves and Airport Left was breaking in the 2-4ft range. Weather wise there’s more cloud than blue sky but hopefully when the Tradewind kicks in it’ll be back to blue sky and sunshine. Ok so the plan has changed and I’ll be trying to get out in the channel at Kuta Reef with the 600mm lens and SLR. One way or another I’ll have some new photos for ya’s to check out after lunch.
**** EARLY MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hello surfers and I thought I’d just bring ya’s up ta date with whats going down out there on the reef breaks of Bali . Well yesterday afternoon around 3 o’clock wave height started to rapidily increase and before we knew it (well I kinda did, if ya read yesterdays surf report) wave height was pushing 5-8ft (on the original wave height scale) by sun set, between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . There were even continuous lines breaking way out in the middle of the Bay of Legian through the late afternoon 0.3mtr Low tide. This morning the 5th and we’ve got a 0.7mtr Low tide happening at 7.00am (current time is 5.15am here in Bali ) and I plan on being down at Padang Padang with the camera equipment for it. Outside I can see some stars in the sky but there’s also a fair bit of cloud to go with it. No wind yet either but I’m hoping the ESE Tradewind kicks in in time for the show. It’s also still too dark out there for a surf check but there shouldn’t be any problems in that department. Ok so now ya’s know what’s going down I’m gunna finish my coffee and get my gear ready. Tune in after lunch cause I’m taking my 1000mm lens + SLR and the Cannon XL2 video camera, loaded for bear and chasing big game ! Catch ya’s then.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Onky has sent through his sms surf report from Lakey Peak and at 7.00am he says there’s still solid waves in the 4-6ft+ range hitting “The Peak” this morning.Surfing conditions were perfect with a light off-shore wind, and blue sky. At the time there were only 2 surfers in the water sharing the perfect left and right handers of Lakey Peak . No one taking on the tubular Lakey Pipe but there were another dozen surfers riding the long walled waves of Nanga’s . He also mentioned that if the wind holds off long enough for the tide to fill in a bit Periscopes will be cranking in the 4-5ft range. Onkey’s head count of the total number of surfers staying at lakey’s has dropped off slightly to 125. For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
