Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands: September 1 surf report Wow, I can’t believe it’s September already! Time flies when you are getting waves! The wind was still blowing hard this morning. South. It was looking bigger out front so we had our hopes up. We checked Kandui’s first, even though it’s rarely worth the paddle if the wind is up. It was surprisingly clean considering the strength of the wind. We saw a couple of waves roll through that gave me a few butterflies. It was doable, but barely. We decided for Hideaways instead. We rolled up and saw a piping set. The guys jumped out and I put fins in my bigger board while I watched everyone getting nice waves, then I got out there myself and the sets stopped! The waves were still fun, but only head high or so for the most part. We were the only ones out so we surfed for hours. Bigger sets started coming in late in our session, but the tide was getting pretty hazardous to our health so we pulled anchor and went to Beng Beng. It was pretty fun there as well with no one out for the most part and overhead waves consistently coming in. We surfed until the tide got a little full then headed back. Fun day. Hoping our swell will be about the same size tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands August 31 surf report: It was blowing pretty good again this morning out of the south. We packed up the boat and headed for Hideaways, hoping the swell was at least as big as yesterday. We were disappointed! The swell was actually looking pretty small. The forecasts sure had this swell looking good, but it just didn’t come through. So we kept going and ended up at E-Bay and Pitstop. Both places were a little overhead on the sets and there were only a handful of guys out so it was alright. We headed back and had lunch after a while. The guys were content to surf onshore 4 Bobs in the afternoon to make sure they were around for happy hour! We are hoping a new swell fills in overnight.
