****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE**** Hello groovers and thanks for dropping in for the news on surf and weather conditions around Bali today . Now as the wet season sets in, or I should say as the wind has swung from West to East and the surfing focus shifts to the East coast of Bali . I should just let you guys know not to drop in on the East Coast Locals or anyone for that matter.
Ok, my 5.45am surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban this morning was showing 1-3 foot of on-shore slop between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The wind was coming straight outta the West at 6-10knot and on-shore right along Bali ’s famous West Coast. The tide was just starting to run in for a 1.9mtr High set for around 11.00am. So the crew staying with us here at Home Base Bali and decided to go and suss out what was happening over on the East Coast at Sri-Lanka . We turned up at 8.00am to find one lone surfer in the water, apparently he’d been out there by himself since 7.00am. Wave height was only breaking in the 1-3ft range but the boys couldn’t complain about the crowd, so out they went. Not the longest wave on the East Coast and much better when it’s breaking in the head to double head high range. Wind direction at Sri-Lanka was pretty well straight off-shore up until around 9.30am when it shifted right around to the South and cross/on-shore. The boys also took a look at Nusa Dua on the way home and said wave height was much better in the 2-4ft+ range but totally on-shore by that time. Another friend of mine sent me a sms from Keramas and reckoned it was pretty good at 6.30am breaking at 2-4ft but come 8.30am there were around 50 surfers in the water.
Weather wise the morning dawned a sky full of cloud and I’m sure it woulda been raining somewhere in Bali . We were lucky to get back from Sri-Lanka without getting our tails wet and right now at 12.30pm it’s still looking pretty dull out there. Even so the temperature would be sitting on a humid old 29-30 degree’s Celsius. While the water temperature is warm enough at 24-25 degree’s Celsius.
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Ok our first objective of aquiring the funds to hook up electricity to the school is done . So a huge pat on the back to all of you that have already contributed or in the process of !!! But there’s still a bit more we can do for the school so if you are interested take a look at the Info page on the school project over on the menue bar.
