**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hello again crew and thanks for stopping by to see whats happening surf and weather wise here in Bali today . And between the surf and the weather, the weather is gunna be our best asset today.
My first surf recon of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban went down at 8.00am , just as the tide was peaking on a 1.8mtr High . Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was still only just visible at 6 inches to 1 foot and only just lapping onto the reef at that. The wind was coming cleanly outta the ESE @ 2-4knot , straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu . Yesterday the surfers staying here with us at Home Base Bali surfed the beach breaks up around the Padma St area and reckoned there were a few little fun waves up to waist high on the sets. But today looks even smaller than yesterday. But I’ll get back down to the beach a bit later on to see if there’s any kinda improvement. I can’t take much more of this flat spell, somethings gotta give soon. Come tomorrow swell or no swell we’ll be making the trip down to Uluwatu to check it out down on the bukit, so bare with us a bit longer. For anyone interested in the dollar exchange rates; — 1AU$=Rp8,400 – 1US$=Rp9,100 – 1NZ$=Rp7,100 – 1EU$=Rp13,075 – 1GB$=Rp19,000 . Plus Ray from up at the Kandui Surf Resort in the Mentawai Islands has sent us more surf info from up there. Scott should have something for ya’s to check out in the READERS REPORT page, so take a flick through the baliwaves, you’ll be sure to find something new.
Weather wise , well it started raining around 4.00am this morning and continues through until 8.00am. But as soon as it let up the cloud started to break up and move off leaving us with a solid blue sky. Right now at 10.30am the outside temperature would easily be around 28 degree’s Celsius and the humidity level would have to be in the high 90% range. The water temperature is a hard to beat 23-24 degree’s Celcius, perfect for board shorts or bikini’s.
I’d also like to say thanks all the considerate surfers & families that have locked in to our commitment to help a school get hooked up with electricity . We have almost reached our goal, that is if everyone who has pledged makes it through. So hopefully by early next week I’ll be taking a fat wad of Rupiah up to hand over to the school committee !!! I’ll also be making a point of making a new page on baliwaves.com today so we can document the progress up at the “ Datah Primary School ” Thanks again for everyone’s patience and support ! For any new viewers to the baliwaves the paragraph below is a bit of a rundown on our school project.
Ok I’m just waiting on Troy our technician to load up our school project page and it should happen any minute now. But I can tell you all that our first objective of aquiring the funds to hook up electricity to the school is done . So a huge pat on the back to all of you that have already contributed or in the process of !!!
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc. Over the next few days I’m going to try and set up a page with more information on this project. But please if anyone would like to help me out with this noble cause don’t hesitate to send me an email via the “CONTACT” link at the bottom of this page, thanks..
Have a good one what ever you’ve got happening out there and stay tuned to the one and only Original Bali Surf and Weather website.
