**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy folks and things are looking slightly better out there today for the desperate. When I went down for the 6.30am surf check of the Outer Reefs wave height has indeed at long last finally increased in size. The tide was running in for a New Moon 1.9mtr High, peaking around 9.00am. Wind dir ection was clean off-shore coming outta the ESE @ 1-3knot . Still not quite big enough for Kuta Reef only just breaking at fat full 1-1ft+. There was a crew of 5 or 6 surfers catching the odd 2 footer at Second Reef. Middle Reef will have a few waist to head high waves towards midday as the tide drops out. Airport left was looking the best of the Outer Reefs breaking in the waist to shoulder high range. Scott has sms’d though from Canggu that there are a few clean little waves breaking in the waist to shoulder high and that he should have a few photos to show later this afternoon. Dewa Made has opted to make the run down to Uluwatu armed with a video camera and hopefully he’ll have some new footage of whats happening surfwise down there today. A couple of the lads staying here at Home Base have just taken off to suss out the beach breaks up along the Kuta to Legian stretch of sand. And I reckon there’d have to be plenty of fun little beachies to choose from while the tide is still in. I should also say well done champ to Aussie Mick Fanning for taking out the World Title, apparently Mick was having a celebration bash last night here in Bali at Rizal Tanjungs famous Balcony Restaurant in Kuta .
Weather wise , well there was no shortage of rain through the early hours of the morning but by 6.30am the cloud cover was breaking away. Right now at 9.00am there’s still some thin cloud about but it’s all shaping up for another hot and humid day around the beach here in Bali.
I’d also like to say thanks all the considerate surfers & families that have locked in to our commitment to help a school get hooked up with electricity . We have almost reached our goal, that is if everyone who has pledged makes it through. So hopefully by early next week I’ll be taking a fat wad of Rupiah up to hand over to the school committee !!! I’ll also be making a point of making a new page on baliwaves.com today so we can document the progress up at the “ Datah Primary School ” Thanks again for everyone’s patience and support ! For any new viewers to the baliwaves the paragraph below is a bit of a rundown on our school project.
Ok our first objective of aquiring the funds to hook up electricity to the school is done . So a huge pat on the back to all of you that have already contributed or in the process of !!! But there’s still a bit more we can do for the school so if you are interested take a look at the Info page on the school project over on the menue bar.
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Have a good one what ever you’ve got happening out there and stay tuned to the one and only Original Bali Surf and Weather website.
