**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** A big hello to everyone that’s tuning into the baliwaves.com surf and weather report today. Hey and lucky I made the effort yesterday to go and shoot some photos for ya’s I tell ya. This morning when I went down for the 7.00am surf recon (after the rain let up) of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban the wind was howling outta the West at a conservative 25knots . So it was pretty hard to determine actual wave height, but I’d have to say there has been a slight increase in size over night. You’d have a snow flakes chance in hell of finding a wave along Bali ’s West Coast today. And even though it’d be off-shore over on the East Coast the wind would be belting it hard. But if you were keen I’m sure you’d be able to find plenty to keep ya busy. A couple of the boys here at Home Base have made the trek up to Keramas to see how it is so I’ll get there views later this afternoon.
Weather wise out there today I’d class her as “wild”. Right now at 9.30am at least the rain has let up for now, but there is still a lot of shifty looking rain clouds to the North and South of Kuta.
Surfboard Tax: This is a funny one crew, well too me anyway. The last few days I’ve been getting hammered with emails asking me if it’s true that Denpasar Airport here in Bali is now charging surfers US$50.00 for every surfboard they want to take out of the country, yeah that’s right, out of Indonesia. I don’t know what sort of uninformed propaganda is being spread out there, but come on. BTW these enquiries are only coming from Aussie’s. Here’s how I see it, there is no extra surfboard tax outta Bali ! But your good old Aussie budget airline Jet Star is including surfboards in your weight allowance, not too mention that they only handle boards under 2 meters in length before charging you for excess length as well. Now the cruncher, the over weight penalty from Jet Star is US$50.00 per Kilo. The over weight charge from say Garuda is US$5.00 per kilo. Figure it out.
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Well Thanks to all the kind hearted folks that have helped us improve the conditions up at the Datah Primary School ! We are making some real progress with the objectives we made, so make sure you check out our progress at the school via the “SCHOOL PROJECT” page over on the menue bar .
