**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for your daily dose of Bali surf and weather info . Well it wasn’t raining when I went down the beach for the 7.00an surf recon of the Outer Reefs but it sure as hell is now. Not much change in wave height here on the West Coast with wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left a wind blown 1-2ft . And I do mean very wind blown, with the wind howling outta the WSW at upta 20knot . So that cancel’s out any chance of surfing along this side of the island. Over on the East Coast you’d be able to find a wave at locations between Serangan and Keramas but I’d imagine it’d be kinda cross-shore over there as well. What I’ll do is wait untill after lunch and see if the weather breaks and I’ll motorbike it over there and see if I can get ya’s some new photos , ya never know.
Weather wise we’ve got a howling W-WSW wind and intermitant rain. Heading for a top temperature of around 27 degree’s Celsius.
Surfboard Tax: This is a funny one crew, well too me anyway. The last few days I’ve been getting hammered with emails asking me if it’s true that Denpasar Airport here in Bali is now charging surfers US$50.00 for every surfboard they want to take out of the country, yeah that’s right, out of Indonesia. I don’t know what sort of uninformed propaganda is being spread out there, but come on. BTW these enquiries are only coming from Aussie’s. Here’s how I see it, there is no extra surfboard tax outta Bali ! But your good old Aussie budget airline Jet Star is including surfboards in your weight allowance, not too mention that they only handle boards under 2 meters in length before charging you for excess length as well. Now the cruncher, the over weight penalty from Jet Star is US$50.00 per Kilo. The over weight charge from say Garuda is US$5.00 per kilo. Figure it out.
I’m stoked that our Scholarship Program for underprivileged Balinese kids has done so well, THANKS BIG TIME to all the big hearted people who have got behind us and helped out. Now I’ve got a new program that I’d like to kick off. One that we can control and keep constant progress up-dates on. I’m talking about kinda adopting a school up in one of the area’s of Bali where there’s no cash flow from tourism and hardly any from anything else for that matter. The kids don’t have to pay school fees, because their Mum and Dad’s don’t have any money to pay. Half, or more of the kids that attend don’t even have shoes to wear to school and walk up to 4km’s bare footed or in rubber thongs just to be there. Now in my opinion this is a worthy project for us to think about. What I’d like to start off with is trying to raise enough cash to get electricity hooked up to the school, with electricity we can then look at a lot of other basic stuff, like a water pump etc etc etc.
Well Thanks to all the kind hearted folks that have helped us improve the conditions up at the Datah Primary School ! We are making some real progress with the objectives we made, so make sure you check out our progress at the school via the “SCHOOL PROJECT” page over on the menue bar .
