****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com to find out whats been happening surf and weather wise here in Bali . Well yesterday like I mentioned the day before I was indisposed all day and didn’t even get a look at the ocean, well actually I did but from afar. I was told that the crew from here at Home Base walked down and surfed at Airport Left around 9.00am, after the rain let up. The wind had died off and there were waves in the 3-4ft+ range breaking exclusively for the boys. But I had to do what I had to do.
This morning’s 6.45am surf check of the Outer Reefs see’s the wind coming outta the WNW @ 4-7knot and on-shore right along the West Coast . Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left has dropped off a touch but still showing in the 2-4ft range . The East Coast is gunna be the best option for hunting up some waves and that’s where I’ve sent the boys from Home Base with Dewa Made behind the wheel. I can’t tell ya’s where of fear (LOL) of reprisals from the expat community but hopefully Dewa will shoot us some video and that I will show ya’s when they get back to HB.
Something that’s been bugging me and I gotta get it off my chest department; Anyone who’s been in the Tuban area from around the end of last dry season woulda notices tha start of breakwall construction between the airport and as far up the beach to Kuta. This project was concepted and funded by a Japanese company. Their idea was to beautify and extend the beach out further and to protect the beachfront hotels from wave erosion. Well what a fucken joke that has turned out to be and they are not even half way finished building these monstrosities. Since the start, there has been nothing but increased erosion and even less beach on the higher tides. I’m gunna go down there later and show ya’s some photos of the damage to at least 3 major hotels since this project has started. In the past there was erosion but only on those huge huge swells that occur every now and again, and that is normal on any beach anywhere in the World. Now it is happening virtually on every tide bigger than 2.0mtrs. How would a Japanese company know how to contain Mother Ocean and her fury ? Even worse, now the local fishermen in this area cant even park their boats above the high tide line because on any tide bigger than 2,0mtrs there is no beach.
Weather wise today we have had some rainfall through the night and it did continue into the early hours of this morning. Right now at 9.00am the sky is still clouded up and there is every chance of more rain to come. Warm temperature of around 26-27 degree’s and humidity in the high 90% range.
Swell forecast for the coming week is for wave height to keep slowly tapering off and by the middle of next week we will be back to head high surf down on the southern end of the island. I think we can also expect the wind to continue blowing light outta the WNW through the morning before swinging to the WSW and increasing in strength after midday.
