**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** G’Day friends of Bali and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves for your daily dose of Bali surf and weather medicine . Well it’s looking pretty good out there again today. When I went down for the 6.30am surf recon of the Outer reefs wave height was still rockin through in the 3-5ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . Actually it has dropped off a touch in size compared to the 3-6 footers that were rolling through out there just before dark yesterday.
The tide was still on it’s way out for a 0.8mtr Low set for around 8.30am and is then gunna be running back up for a 2.1mtr High around 2.30pm. The wind at the time was coming lightly outta the NNE @ 1-2knot , so surfing conditions are clean and smooth. My bet is that the wind will vary around through the morning and then maybe settle into the Eastern (off-shore) quadrant by midday.
Kuta Reef already had a few surfer out there and wasn’t looking two bad (just one bad). Wave height on KR was peeling off in the 2-3ft+ class and will more than likely improve after the Low tide passes and starts to run back in. Middle Reef was cranking through 3-5 footers being better suited to the shallower end of the tide phase, so needless to say there were a few surfers out there charging it. I didn’t see anyone surfing down on Airport left but you can bet ya balls when the tide turns there will be a crew out there chasing the 2-3ft+ waves.
Lombok ; I’ve got one of the baliwaves crew over visiting the island of Lombok hunting waves at the moment and he sent us through an sms surf up-date yesterday afternoon. Dale said that wave height in the Kuta / Lombok area was still only showing in the 1-2ft+ range at the time, but that should be all changed by now. He also mentioned that Lombok seemed unusually crowded with something like 40 surfers staying in the area at the moment. Hopefully we’ll get some more news from Mr Young later today.
Ok now don’t forget that Scotto has been sending in his READER REPORTS from the North Coast of New South Wales and the Southern Queensland area’s of Australia. And pretty soon we’ll have more reports and photos coming to ya’s from the KANDUI SURF RESORT up in the Mentawai Island chain . So stay tuned to the baliwaves or ya won’t have a clue whats going on.
Weather wise today on the baliwaves 0-10 weather scale we are gunna give her a big 8-10. Just blue sky and sunshine, clean wind and plenty of waves for the lucky buggers over here for the pre-season warm up.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that 1AU$=Rp8,650 and 1US$=Rp9,175.
Another thing I couldn’t help but notice while I was on the beach, was the increased amount of beach front damage that’s happened at the Pantai Restaurant / Ma Jolley and Bali Bintang Ramada Hotels . You can see the photos I took of the destruction in the KUTA CAM GALLERY .
