Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai islands, March 24th surf report
There wasn’t much sign of swell out front this morning, but the forecasts were calling for quite a bit of west in the swell so we still had hopes. Sure enough, once we got around to the more west facing reefs we could see signs of life! It was glassy, but the winds hadn’t really decided what they wanted to do and everywhere had a bit of morning sickness. So we went around to Beng Beng because it’s tucked back behind an island and generally cleaner. Sure enough, it had nice conditions and no one was out. We surfed for hours by ourselves. The sun was out and we took lots of still shots and video. Finally a boat showed up and gave us an excuse to go back and eat some lunch. We ate and were feeling pretty lazy, but we could see a storm forming over Siberut so we figured the winds might turn north and Bankvaults might have something going for it. Some wind and rain hit us on the way, but by the time we got there the rain had gone but the offshores were still there and blew all afternoon. The conditions were looking good and there were sets going a few feet overhead. Everybody got some fun waves! We were stoked we mustered up the energy to check it because it was really fun. Expecting the swell to fade a little tomorrow.

Surf was looking a bit small today. We headed over to Nipusi to see what was going on. It was about the same size as yesterday. Some of the guys went out there and the others went out at Bankvaults. There were a couple of decent waves, but nothing to write home about. In the afternoon, we did a repeat of the morning. It seemed to be a bit bigger with a little more push, especially at Bankvaults, so we have hope that the forecasts are correct and there will be swell in the morning
