Ok These latest photos were taken on Sunday 2nd March, it was round three of competition. Conditions were very clean and waves ranged in the 2-3ft mark. All day the wind stayed out of the south and offshore. Competiton was delayed till the tide dropped enough but what a day of competition it was. There was some hot surfing and there was a couple of surfers who were looking really ready to kick the new years chase for the world title into top gear. Bede smashed his heat straight of the bat. Mick Fanning was in devastating form. Taj Burrow made his intentions clear by blowing up in his heat with some very precise surfing on speed. Dean Morrision was ready to catch every wave that moved but didn’t really have to cause he had Dane Reynolds comboed in the first few minutes of the heat. Talking of Dane he layed down a couple of the biggest turns all day. His surfing was amazing and I guess he’s just not ready to confirm to the contest format. Lets hope he dosn’t cause it was definetly exciting to watch. The guy rips. Jordy was also very impressive and dominated his heat against Bobby Martinez. These two new rookies I hope really light up the tour this year, they were very impressive and were going as hard as anyone. At the end of the day there were still some heats of Rnd 3 to be run, but the conditions got the better of it. Once they called it a day for competition quite a few of the pro’s headed out. It was great to see Kelly rip it up. There was not a tube ridden all day and he paddled out first wave and pulled into a nice little cover up. They guys a freak. Three time world champ Tom Curren also made an appearance and he has not lost any of his style, he’s still ripping. All in all it was a top day of surfing and I wish that I could see the rest of the competition days, but I have other commitments. I’ll send another report as soon as I get the chance. It might be a while though (weekends hopfully)so till next time!
