April 23 surf report
Sunshine!!! Finally. The winds had done an about face during the night and was blowing out of the east. We had our choice of all the lefts in the area with that wind. The charter boats spread out and we send out our boats on the hunt as well. One boat got to Beng Beng before anyone and had it to them selves before our second boat joined them. They had the head high, glassy sets to themselves for their entire session. Our third boat decided to surf Ebay/Pitstops. There were a few guys on it, but not bad. It wasn’t long, though, before it got crowded. But we saw a storm coming and knew a wind switch was on the way. We jumped in the boat and took off for Nipusi. By the time we arrived, the wind was offshore and the storm had passed and the sun was out again! We surfed the overhead waves for hours to ourselves. Stoked to get some uncrowded surf and good weather. Meanwhile, our guys at Beng Beng felt the wind switch as well and they took off for 4 Bobs. By the time they got there the wind was out of the northwest and conditions were good and the charter boats were miles away, still surfing onshore Ebay The photogs got some great shots of the girls with good light and the sick backdrop of the island in front of the resort. I’m sure you will see a shot of today somewhere soon. Hoping the predicted storm misses us tomorrow.
April 22 surf report
Yikes! Groundhog Day! The winds were not as strong as yesterday, but the west chop was still in the water from the stormy weather so the playgrounds area out in front of the resort was again the only rideable spot for miles around, thus there were more than average charters boats around because there was just no place else to go. So it was mostly a 4 Bobs day, with a little Karabat Left, and John Candy’s mixed in. Waves were a little overhead and the winds were, for the most part, light and offshore out of the west. It would have been really fun if we had it to ourselves, but it was a bit busy. Still, everyone got some fun waves, although all the photographers working with our pro women are ready to slit their wrists due to the thick overcast the last five days or so! A boat owner said this was the worst streak of weather he has ever seen. It can’t last. We might get a little break in the weather tomorrow before another round of weather is forecast to come our way.
April 21 surf report
Despite a valiant effort at an alcoholic surf sacrifice last night by unnamed guests, the surf still basically sucked this morning. Strong west winds and small surf. We watched a couple of boats head over to Nipusi, then head straight back here, so we knew there wasn’t anything worth searching for outside of our protected little spot. There was a glimmer of hope as the waves out at 4 Bobs, which was the only place surfable again today, gradually got bigger as the day went on. By the afternoon there were some head high sets rolling through and some of our guys got a few good waves. We are hoping for a break in the wind tomorrow and for and increase in swell
April 20th surf report
Well, the surf sacrifice last night didn’t seem to work. Still small surf and howling northwest to west winds all day. Some of our guys went to Nipusi for a little surf. The winds were not bad, coming side/offshore from the northwest, but there was a lot of messy, west wind chop mixed in. After an hour or so they were over it. 4 Bobs out in front of the resort was the only wave around that had decent conditions, but it was only chest high or so at best. Maybe tomorrow.
