Kandui Surf Resort April 26 surf report
Leilani and Stephanie had to catch the plane out of here today along with the photographers Russ, Matt, and John. So, of course, the sun came out, the wind stopped, and the swell increased! Murphy’s Law. Our first boat went to Bankvaults. The waves were overhead and conditions were good. There were only a handful of other people out as there is only one charter boat in the entire North Mentawaiian chain right now! Our guys surfed it for hours straight, getting shacked and having a great time. Our other boat surfed Ebay which was a little overhead and fun as well, but Bankvaults was definitely the place to be today. I had to go with the gang to the airport to make sure things went well, so I didn’t get back until mid afternoon. I was frothing to go surfing after hearing all the reports about how good the waves were and because I probably had only caught about 1 wave in the last week because the weather was so bad, but everyone was too tired after surfing all day long. Finally, I had to just grab a boat driver and go myself! When I got to Bankvaults, I couldn’t believe my eyes! Perfect conditions, no one out, and the swell had increased and was double overhead! I headed straight out! It wasn’t too long before one of my partners, Jordan, showed up with a couple of his friends and we shared the freight trains that were coming through. The waves were top notch, and there were about 10 waves or so that came through that were about as good as Bankvault’s gets. Maybe as good as anywhere gets! Bankvaults is so underrated. If you were lucking enough to get one of those, you were getting a trophy case barrel! I was lucky enough to get two of them, and one of them was the best barrel I’ve gotten in maybe 8 or 10 months or longer. And I live out here! A+ Bankvaults. And there were only a handful of guys to share it. Unfortunately, we only have one picture and it was by far the worst wave I caught. Our boat driver Andy, who surfs and rips, was taking the pictures and he couldn’t take the pain of seeing waves like that while sitting on the boat. He just paddled by muttering something about “low batâ€. Who could blame him! We are probably looking at good conditions again tomorrow and maybe even bigger swell.
