Hello my fine surfer come fisherman friends. Well now as the season is changing from wet to dry so is the better fishing weather with it. I’ve had a couple of guests the last couple of days wanting to get out for a taste of Balinese style sport fishing and what else could I say except, lets go. We have been putting the boat down into the water just before sun up and then making our way north towards the Canggu area and starting to troll for pelagics. Yesterday the 3rd when I was out with Marty (cover shot) the fishing was particularly hot and within the first hour we had already boated 12 fish ranging from 3kgs up to 8kgs.
The main specis that were hitting our lures were big teethed Baracuda and Golden Trevally. There were also plenty of Spanish Mackeral jumping but everytime we got near to them we either had a Barra or a Golden snatch the lure. But on one occassion my set reel started screaming and peeled off at least 400yrds in a matter of seconds before having the wire trace cleanly bitten through. The suspected lure thief was a big Spaniard, but we’ll never know, will we. There was also a bit of surface action happening yesterday with some nice sized schools of GT’s feeding on small bait fish and we also managed to spin up a few of those babies on our lighter spinning rods. Yesterday the 3rd we boated around 25 fish and ended up feeding a lot of people. Today’s fishing brough a mixed bag of good and bad luck.
One time I had already gaffed and had removed the treble hook from a solid GT then after the fish played possum for a couple of photos he sliced my fingers on his tail spinal fin and then did a perfect swany back into the water and swam off to tell his mates of the out of water experience. Then not long after that we had a 10kg Spanish Mackeral play the game all the way into the side of the boat shaking his head and straightening out the hook ring, then swim off laughing at us. Anyway here’s a few of the photos we managed to snap through some heated moments, and there’s every chance we’ll be heading back out for some more fishing again tomorrow.
All the best and next time your in Bali and wanna try some big game fishing with us drop us a line and we’ll hook ya up. The boys charge AU$50.00 per person with a minimum of two guests for the day with everything but your hat included. Plus they’ll even throw together a Balinese fish BBQ for ya afterwards. So drop me a line through the “CONTACT” LINK
Best Regards from Bali
