Hello friends of our school project and seeing as though I was back up at the school on the 23rd it’s time for another up-date on whats been happening and importantly where your contributions have been going. Well as I approached the school my first glimpse was of the newly completed wall and entrance area. What a diference it has made compared to the old and falling apart wall that they had before.
They also had enough materials to partician off the play ground with another feature wall so the teachers can better supervise the kids when they are out for lunch. The teachers and children have already started to “green” the school grounds seeing as now the farm animals that sometimes free graze in the area cannot come in and devour any new plants and saplings.
Only just a few days before I made the journey up to the school I meet with a principal of a small school in South Australia who was in Bali on holidays (surfing) and he told me how his students had been on a fund raising program for Datah Primary and he had brought over a stack of books and colouring in pencils etc etc for the school. So I also had those along with me to present to the school.
I can’t really begin to tell everyone just how much of a difference your contributions of kindness have helped the school. After I finished at the school I also attended a meeting of the local village (Desa) where all the men were in attendance. I was pretty darn proud I tell ya’s when the Boss got up and gave us a big wrap on what we have been doing for them. Well not for them directly as the majority in attendance had never had the good fortune of going to school. But for what we have been doing for their children and future children of Desa Datah.
So ok the new wall is completed and we can strike off another one of our objectives. Well done crew, the cost of this objective was Rp14.000,000 around AU$1,700.00 I think I mentioned in a previous progress report that just about all of “my” cost assements were a fair way below actual costs…. We do still have around Rp10,000,000. left in our funds and this capital is going to be used for the paving of the school assembly and prayer area.
This work should commence sometime in the next two weeks and hopefully completed by mid May. One thing I do have to apologize about is that our major contributor “Doug” would have liked us to purchase a basic laptop computer for the school principal to help streamline their administration etc etc. Unfortunately due to my bad quoting all the funds have gone into completion of the other objectives.
But the good news is that IBM the computer company have come to the rescue and have also decide to help Datah Primary school. Now this has totally blown me away. IBM are going to provide one of their new children friendly computers for the kids and other computers for the Pricipal and staff.
They are also going to provide a 3 day intensive training session for the principal and selected staff.
This presentaion of the computers to Datah Primary School is going to take place sometime around the middle of next month and hopefully I’ll be there to record it for you. In fact IBM are sponsoring 6 schools throughout Indonesia. The incredible thing is that Datah Primary School is the only school in Bali receiving computers and the only Primary School receiving computers. All the other school are High Schools.
So once again this wouldn’t have happened with out you guys supporting the school. You people are legends and we are truelly lucky that there are still people like yourselves in this crazy World.
On behalf of the children and teachers at Datah Primary School
Best Regards from Bali
