**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE **** G’day crew and thanks for hanging around for me to get back from Uluwatu today. And I tell ya’s it was well worth the trip ! These latest images are only lowly frame grabs from the Cannon XL2 digital video camera. And, as soon as this report is on-line I’ll start editing the footage into some clips for ya’s. Definitly worth downloading for some searing hot tube riding action.
Ok, my first surf recon of the Outer Reefs of Tuban went down at 6.30am and wave height was a consistent 2-4ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . The first of our tides today was a 0.7mtr Low @ 6.30am then followed by a 2.4mtr High @ 12.30pm . Wind direction was already coming outta the ESE-SE @ 2-5knot and straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu.
At the time there was already 2 surfers on Kuta Reef and wave height was in the waist to head high range, but the tide was still too low for the sections to line up properly. Middle Reef also had 2 or 3 surfers in the water and wave height was a much bigger head to well over head high, but also not lining up too well. Airport left had shoulder to head high plus waves brea king but no contenders at that stage.
As ya’s can see I made my way down to Uluwatu with Dewa Made and I sharing the camera load on our two bikes. We pulled up around 8.30am to see wave height steaming through the Racetrack in the 3-4ft+ range while the tide was still low enough. At that time there was only about a dozen surfers in the water. As the tide started to fill in the Main Peak started to come alive and wave height started to push into the 4-6ft range. Make sure ya’s check out the latest video footage I shot today, there’s some sick barrel rides and I’d have to say that Aussie Owen Wright was the tube master today.
Coming home past Padang Padang and Impossible’s there were head to head high plus lines bending down the reef through Impossible’s and quite a few surfers scattered through em. By that time the tide was getting pretty full so it was all over for Padang Padang being better suited to the lower end of the tide range.
Weather wise today 10 outta 10 on the baliwaves.com scale of weather with nothing but blue sky and off-shore wind from sun up till sun down. What more does a surfer want when he’s doing his thing hey !

This should continue into next week with another system riding in on it’s back and keeping wave height in the medium to solid class and then furth er out towards the end of next week yet another solid swell system moving in on us.
