****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Howdy crew and welcome back to your baliwaves for another run down on how the waves and weather has been today around Bali . And I gotta tell ya now that we are getting towards the end of June and just about in the middle of the peak tourist season, the number of visitors is growing rapidly.
My first surf recon of the Outer Reefs this morning was showing a slight drop in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Lefts but still some nice little waist to head high stuff to play in. The first of tides today was a 0.9mtr Low around 10.30am and then we had a 1.6mtr High around 4.30pm. Wind direction was only light and variable through the early AM before the ESE Tradewind kicked in at 9.00am.
Kuta Reef was only brea king in the 1-2ft range.
Middle Reef was still picking up the odd head high set wave and looking the best on the lower end of the tide. Once again Middle’s had a solid crew of around 20-25+ surfers in the water at the time.
Airport Left was also pretty popular but only brea king in the waist to waist high plus range.
Keramas . Scotto made the run up to Keramas first up this morning to see what was happening up there and said that it was brea king nicely in the head high class. But was pretty much all over as the tide got towards the bottom, around the same time as the ESE Tradewind started to blow.
Uluwatu . From Keramas Scott made the long trip back to the very south end of the island to Uluwatu. As ya’s can see in these latest photos he’s brought back for us wave height was still holding in the head to head high plus range. Anyway here’s what Scott had to say about Uluwatu today. “Today I was on the road by 6am. I was off to Keramas to see how things were looking up there. I could not see anything but light wind so I threw the dice and gambled on there being something up that way.
I was on site by 7am and there was the odd 3ft wave hitting the reef. There was already a crew of around 10 and that doubled in half an hour. They were getting some nice barrells and conditions were clean and glassy. The only problem was there was no sunlight. The sun was trying to shine through but the cloud cover made it impossible to get any decent pictures. So by 8:30am I was out of luck as the wind came up, and the tide started to drop out. I made the decision to head south down to the bukit.
An hour and half later I pulled up in the carpark. There was some nice waves hitting the racetrack section of reef. I bumped into a mate and he was going to wait till the tide started to push a little more. I on the other hand was determined to get the goods I’d missed out on up at Keramas.
So I scrambled down the bottom and around the cliff face to one of my favourite little rocks and shot some photos from an angle I have not had for a while. As you can see, some of the waves on the racetrack was doing thier best to eat boards and bodies. There was some deep barrells and the wave was moving pretty fast today. I didn’t do a head count but would take a guess at about 40.
I hung around till about 11am and then decieded too call it quits. Its been a long day and I still have to sort through the shots I have taken. Plus all that time on the bike has not done my back any good. I may just need another massage….. Ok till next time. Scottoâ€
Weather wise more cloud cover through the early AM but by 10.30 there was pretty well just blue sky and sunshine for the beach lovers on vacation here in Bali . Tempe rature wis e another 30+ degree day.
Swell Forecast ; 24th – 30th June. Well I’ve only had a quick glance at the charts so far today and it looks like there’s not going to be any change in wave height today, 1-3ft+ depending on location. But hopefully by Wednesday afternoon we should start to see a new swell starting to build that should generate some double over head surf for Thursday and Friday, once again depending on location. Smaller waves through next weekend but still something to ride. Then early next week it’s looking positive for another solid system to smack into the reefs around Bali and Ind onesia . So all in all it’s looking good for another surf filled week here in Bali . But all the same I’ll be keeping an eye on things and if there are any changes I’ll keep ya’s In the loop.
Drop me a line if your interested in getting on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time !
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
G-Land ; I had a pnone call from G-Land this morning and Raymond said to tell you guys and girls that he’ll give you 15% discount off the published price. Just click on his G-Land banner over in our banner advertisement section and drop him an email.
