****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves for your daily run down on Bali’s surf and weather scene.
Ok I’ve already been down for the 6.45am surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban and wave height is still hanging in there but maybe dropped of a whisker in size from yesterday. Yesterday wave height did kick in a bit more size through mid morning. Today what we have is around 1-3ft of swell breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left. The first of our tides will be a 0.8mtr Low around 11.00am and then followed up with a 1.5mtr High around 4.30pm. Not much wind this morning and that’s a nice change from how it has been over the last 10 days or so. But what wind there is down the beach is coming lightly outta the East @ 1-2knot.
Kuta Reef had a few smallies coming through in the waist to chest high range and there was still enough water over the reef at the time I was there. Billabong was just setting up there boats in the channel to continue the Billabong Junior Surfing Series Contest and if you want to see how that has been going you can read the full press release in the baliwaves.com “Stories†page or go directly to the ISC website through their free banner on our site.
Middle Reef was looking the best option for the free surfers out there today. Wave height was still hanging in there at 2-3ft (waist to head high) for the early morning crew that were already in the water.
Airport Left was missing out on the swell a bit, with a long wait for the set waves to come through. When they did come through wave height was also in the waist to waist high plus range. Airports will improve though when the tide starts its run back in around midday.
Beach Breaks , Once again the beachies anywhere along the Kuta HalfWay to Padma St area will be producing some nice little waves towards late afternoon.
Uluwatu , we;; the crew and I from Home Base are planning on heading down there as soon as this stuff is taken care of. Hopefully we’ll still find Ulu breaking in the 2-4ft range. So if ya call back into the baliwaves later this afternoon you’ll be able to see for yourselves what it was really like.
Weather wise out there this morning the sky was clouded over from dawn. Then around 8.15am it got even worse and started raining. It has let up now but still looking a bot gloomy to the east. Hopefully by midday we’ll have a return to blue sky and sunshine for the holiday crew.
Swell Forecast (10th July – 16th July) Small waves for today the 10th at most locations around Bali with maybe some more size down on the southern end of the island. Hopefully tomorrow (11th) we should receive a small spike in wave height that will last into the weekend. Then we’ll see wave height tapering back off through the start of next week. Further out we may have a new system moving our way but we’ll have to keep our eye on the charts.
I’d just like to let everyone know about the “Coca-Cola for Bali coastal clean up day†being held at Legian beach 13th July 08 at 8.00am. For more information on this gath ering go to this link for the full run down. https://www.baliwaves.com/Content.aspx?Page=Stories&Section=Read&ID=43
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room.
For the surfer / fisherman out there, and isn’t there a little bit of fisherman in all of us ? Well you guys can take a look at the fishing report and photos from the last couple of trips out sport fishing here in Bali
Check out the wotashot.com banner over in our banner advertising section. These guys offer a unique photo service enabling photographers to sell their photos on-line without any charge to the photographer.
Don’t forget if any of you lot want to grab some photos or video footage surfing here in Bali and we can easily arrange it for ya.
Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$600.00 !!! Start organizing your crew now for the recommencement of these charters in March 08. Better still charter the boat privately with up to 10 of your friends for AU$6,000. all inclusive.
If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Best Regards from the No.1 surfing holiday destination that’s got it all, BALI , see ya’s here in 2008
