Kandui Surf Resort July 14th surf report.
Well, with the swell dropping the way is was, we needed a wind switch overnight to give us some good conditions at the south facing reefs that would be picking up swell the best, and that is exactly what we got! It started raining last night and we had west winds when we woke up. 4 Bobs was looking good with shoulder high plus sets and offshores, and, after a cup of joe, one of the guests got out there and soloed it for a while. By the time some of the other guests got ready to get out there the winds went more north and they all ended up going to Nipusi where conditions were good and the waves were overhead. The wind kept switching from north to west, but never blew hard. We surfed Nipusi and 4 Bobs all day, and some even went out to Rifles in the late afternoon and got some occasional shoulder high waves. Conditions were perfect out there with moderate offshore winds blowing. If only we could have had conditions like that during those last two big south swells! Looks like we will get another crack at it as some big swells are coming our way. Stay tuned! Probably looking at a couple of small days before they come though.

The swell was a little smaller this morning. Winds were out of the south. We had a couple of boats go out. Both tried their luck at Nipusi because it was picking up all the south swell and it was overhead, but it was too choppy to keep the stoke up long. One boat went to Beng Beng and surfed, but it was really small. Only waist high or so. Late in the afternoon some of us surfed old faithful, 4 Bobs, and got some chest high, fun waves before dark. Probably looking at even smaller surf tomorrow. Yikes! We need a wind switch!

The surf was a little smaller this morning and the wind was blowing out of the southeast. The swell was pretty south so the spots that were offshore on that wind were only chest high or so, but there were some fun ones at Beng Beng so that is where our boats eventually ended up. It wasn’t epic Mentawais, but it was fun. Some of the guys went out to 4 Bobs in the afternoon and got a couple sideshore, shoulder high waves before sunset. We are probably looking at smaller surf tomorrow.
