Kandui Surf Resort July 17th surf report
Everyone got up a little late this morning. The rain started sometime before
sunrise and didn’t let up enough to bother thinking about getting out of bed until
around 7 o’clock. The sound of rain on the roof is like anti-coffee! Eventually,
people got to the restaurant and eventually we got in a boat and looked for waves,
but the storm left the ocean kind of messed up and, after looking at just about
every spot, we returned to the resort and surfed Old Faithful, 4 Bobs. The winds
went northwest in the afternoon and there were a few waves at Rifles, so the guys
split up between there and 4 Bobs and surfed until dark. Nothing epic, but fun. We are hoping for bigger surf to be showing in the morning

The winds were blowing lightly out of the southeast this morning. We took a look at Kandui to see how the swell was looking on the west facing reefs, but it was pretty small. We decided to hang out and wait to see if a forecast swell for the afternoon might bump up the swell later. After lunch, we took off. It had become pretty glassy. Some surfed for a bit at Last Resorts. It was bigger than yesterday, but a current was running so they came back and surfed 4 Bobs. The rest surfed Nipusi. It was overhead and fun. We are hoping for a little bigger surf tomorrow.
Kandui Surf Resort July 15th surf report
It was super glassy this morning. There were still a few waves at 4 Bobs, but all
in all it was smaller. It was looking small enough for Burgerworld to be breaking
properly so that is where many of the guys went. Burgerworld is one of those places you can surf and swear it’s the worst wave in the Mentawais, but catch it on a good day and you won’t believe your eyes! Unfortunately for our guys, today was not that day. It was broken up and shifty with the occasional clean up set. An average surf at best. Our second boat went up and checked out Last Resort and ended up scoring a little bit. There was no one out, as usual, and the waves were overhead on the sets. Conditions were good with the now light east northeast winds. The sun was out and it ended up being a nice session with just the 6 of us sharing waves. In the afternoon, it was more of Last Resorts and a few guys surfed chest high Rifles just for laughs. We are probably looking at smaller surf tomorrow, but with a hope of increasing swell in the afternoon.
