****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Howdy crew and thanks for taking the time to drop by the baliwaves.com for your daily dose of surf and weather info straight from your favourite surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Alright so things are getting back on track again today and I was able to get down the beach for a 7.00am surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban. Wave height has definitely kicked this morning contrary to what some of the swell prediction websites are saying with a solid increase of 3-5ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was a 0.5mtr Low @ 7.00am and then well see a solid 2.4mtr High @ 1.00pm. Wind direction was coming outta the ESE-SE @ 7-12knot and straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu. In true Tradewind fashion.
Kuta Reef was peeling off waves in the 2-4ft range and is only going to get better through the day. But be warned there will be a solid crowd out there as usual when ever there’s an increase in size.
Middle Reef was breaking way out in the 4-6ft class but I don’t think there were any takers out there when I was down on the beach.
Airport Left also had plenty of waves breaking this morning but also needed a bit more water filling in over the reef and like Kuta Reef will improve as the tide runs back in.
That’s all the surf info I’ve got for ya’s this morning but there’ll be plenty more coming tomorrow. And with the Rip Curl Search event being held at Uluwatu starting on the 30th of this month you can expect to see all the big guns of the Pro scene here in Bali. Infact there’s already quite a few here mingling in. But unfortunately for the locals and visitors here in Bali Uluwatu will be off-limits to the public for the duration of the event.
Padang Padang , if your interested in the reefed boat down there check our Readers Report page for photos of the stricken vessel or check the latest video clips in our Revver Video Section. I’ve been reading all sorts of assumptions on the web about this situation. Yes it is a serious situation with damage to the reef and marine envoirnment from fuel and oil leakage. But there is a Team here in Bali trying to control the situation and Coke Cola has also decided to lend a helping hand by donating US$5,000.00 to the cause to help with on going damage control. A lot of surfers only seem concerned about the actual wave, but where the boat is now (Readers Report photos) there is no real threat to the wave itself. The Real Padang Padang is a Low Tide wave so backwash is not an issue.
Weather wise today we have a mainly blue sky and plenty of sunshine for the sun tan brigade. Heading for a maximum of 31 degree’s on the Cesius scale. The water temp seems to have cooled off again and currently around 19-20 degree’s Celsius.
Ok and here’s just a quick heads up on an up coming special even happening here in Bali on the 27th of July. Tom Curren will be playing live at the Hard Rock Café in Kuta along with a screening of Walking on Water surf movie. ALL FOR FREE !!!! So if your in town or going to be in town make sure ya get yourself down there ok.
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
