****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Good afternoon friends and thanks for haning out for the baliwaves.com wrap on surf and weather conditions today here on your holiday island of Bali.
Well my first look at the ocean this morning at 6.30am was showing another slight drop in wave height on the Outer Reefs. But there was still enough swell out there to make it worth a paddle. Actual wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left was coming through in the 2-4ft range. The first of our tides today was a 0.6mtr Low @ 8.00am and then followed up with a 2.1mtr High @ 2.00pm. The ESE-SE Tradewind had already kicked in and was gusting up to 15knots by midday.
Kuta Reef was breaking in the waist to head high class but in need of more water over the reef at the time.
Middle Reef was looking pretty good on the lower end of the tide with wave height pushing through in the head to well over head size.
Airport Lefts was also in need of more water with shoulder to head high plus set waves breaking.
Uluwatu; Scotto made the run down to Uluwatu this morning as ya’s can see in these latest photos to come outta Bali, and here’s what he had to say about it all. “I made a quick stop off at Padang Padang and there was three guys out, I waited for a while but did not see a set break. Impossibles on the other hand had nice 3-4ft waves running down the reef and there was around 20 surfers making the most of the mornings low tide. I wanted to keep going around to Uluwatu though so I moved on.
Down at Uluwatu there was about 12 surfers already in the water at 7:30am when I arrived. I made my way straight down to the bottom of the cliff and found my little vantage point. Sets were in the 4-6ft+ range although the racetrack was not yet really doing its thing there was the odd wave that ran right though. It was actually a little big for the track beacuse the waves were breaking to wide and not right on the reef. As the tide started to push in a moved back up the top and into the warung out the way of sun, and rising water.
As the tide continued to push I could see that it was only going to get better on the main peak and as I type this up at 12:45pm I imagine that it is going off. With some good sets running all the way through. Ok so that is my days photos, typing and bike riding done. Tomorrow I hope to see another little kick in swell and get back down the bukit for some Padang Padang action. Till then. Scottâ€
Weather wise it was grey and overcast for the first half of the day before the sun finally popped out. Right now at 2.30pm the outside temperature would be sitting on something like 29 degree’s Celsius.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that; 1AU$=Rp8,800 and 1US$=Rp9,100
Ok and here’s just a quick heads up on an up coming special even happening here in Bali on the 27th of July. Tom Curren will be playing live at the Hard Rock Café in Kuta along with a screening of Walking on Water surf movie. ALL FOR FREE !!!! So if your in town or going to be in town make sure ya get yourself down there ok.
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room.
For the surfer / fisherman out there, and isn’t there a little bit of fisherman in all of us ? Well you guys can take a look at the fishing report and photos from the last couple of trips out sport fishing here in Bali

Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$600.00 !!! Start organizing your crew now for the recommencement of these charters in March 08. Better still charter the boat privately with up to 10 of your friends for AU$6,000. all inclusive.
If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Best Regards from the No.1 surfing holiday destination that’s got it all, BALI , see ya’s here in 2008
