****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE**** Howdy friends and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for your daily fix of surf and weather info from Bali.
Ok my first surf check of the Outer Reefs went down at 7.00am to find that wave height has definitely boosted over night and now showing in the 3-5ft+ Range between Kuta Reef and Airport left. Tidewise the our first for today was a 0.9mtr Low around 10.00am and then running back up for a 1.6mtr High around 3.30pm. Wind direction was light and variable and mainly coming outta the WNW @ 1-2knot. Even on my last surf check at 10.45am wind direction was still pretty much light on-shore outta the WNW.
Kuta Reef on first surf check was smoking through set waves in the head to well over head high range and there was something like 25 surfers in the water. But with the tide dropping it woulda been getting shallow. I’d have to imagine right now at 12.30pm it would be all starting top crank again for the afternoon run up.
Middle Reef this morning was pretty solid with some set waves pushing the 5-5ft+ range (double head plus). There were also a few surfers out there at the time but with the wind light on-shore it woulda been testy.
Airport Left like Kuta Reef had some nice waves through the early am before the tide started getting to low and was easily producing head to head high plus set waves.
I’d imagine Padang Padang woulda had some waves down there today in the 2-4ft+ range as the tide hit the bottom of the Low. Along with Impossible’s and Bingin.
Uluwatu, well the Rip Curl Padang Padang Cup was run and won all in one day down at Uluwatu yesterday with “Gogo†taking the money and getting a “wildcard†entry into the Search event scheduled to start on the 30th of this month. Uluwatu is back open to the surfing public again for today and tomorrow only.
Yesterday I was out at Kuta Reef with a smallish crew of about 25 other surfers and I have to admit it was a pretty well perfect 2-4ft. While I was out there Dewa Made had taken a few of the surfers staying with us down to Balangan. He also managed to shoot us some New Video footage and as soon as I get this on line I’ll check it out and see what we got. I also dropped a bundle of body boarding photos onto the baliwaves Bodyboarding page, so if your into it check em out.
Weather wise today it was a little bit overcast to start with but around midday the cloud has moved on to leave us with a blue and sun filled sky. About the same time as the ESE-SE Tradewind kicked in blowing off-shore from Legian down to Uluwatu.
Ok and here’s just a quick heads up on an up coming special even happening here in Bali on the 27th of July. Tom Curren will be playing live at the Hard Rock Café in Kuta along with a screening of Walking on Water surf movie. ALL FOR FREE !!!! So if your in town or going to be in town make sure ya get yourself down there ok.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
