****RIPCURL SEARCH —-BALI—-****
Hi Crew and as usual a big thanks for tuning into your baliwaves.com for the latest surf and weather info from your No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali. And while your waiting for the run down on todays conditions (surfs up !) here’s the latest Press release from the ISC thanks to Tim Hain.
I can’t make it down there today for the opening rounds but with a bit of luck and name dropping Scotto will get through and get us a full run down from Uluwatu. I’ll be back shortly with the news on whats going down on the Outer Reefs so stay tuned to www.baliwaves.com through out the day.
Ok surfers what we have out there this morning is a solid increase in wave height with 3-6ft+ waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Right. All sections of the Outer Reefs are producing fine waves and there’s a solid crowd out there to match. While I was down on the beach I saw 4 broken boards come in on the boats and that was only in a half hour period.
RipCurl Search / Bali:10.00am; So with the new swell (swell forecast) arriving right on time the organizers have decided to move the contest around the corner to PADANG PADANG. Uluwatu would have to be huge this morning probably in the 8ft+ sector. Scotto has done well and got baliwaves a media pass and is on the cliff at Padang Padang for the start of the event. Wave height at padang Padang is reportedly breaking in the double to triple over head class so there’s going to be some incredible performances going down. The waves will only improve through out the day with the Low Tide around mid afternoon.
Stay tuned for more updates from Scott live from the RIPCURL SEARCH at Padang Padang.
29 July, 2008 – Somewhere, Indonesia: Rip Curl’s Global Marketing
Manager Neil Ridgeway opened things up by welcoming everyone and
thanking them for their support, assuring one and all that it would be
another epic Search event.
Rip Curl Indonesia’s General Manager Jeff Anderson followed up and
thanked first and foremost the ASP for bringing back a WCT event to
Indonesia. Next, Indonesia’s Minister of Sports gave a short speech
about how the sport of surfing is helping put Indonesia on the
worldwide map.
The attendees were then treated to a Kecak dance, and those on the
front row including Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Rip Curl Global CEO
Francois Payot, Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, and Pancho Sullivan had to
bend backwards during part of it in order to stay out of the fire!
After the dance, the Minister of Sport banged the gong and the event
was officially ON! Then a short press conference followed with Mick
Fanning, Kelly Slater, Pancho Sullivan, and last but not least
Indonesia’s wildcard entry, the winner of the Rip Curl Cup last
Friday, Komang “Gogo” Sujaya!
It was announced that all the boys should be ready to go for a 6:30 am
standby call and hopefully a 7:00 am start. The swell forecast is for
double overhead plus waves on Wednesday, so should be great day of c
ompetition to kick things off.
