****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****Howdy crew and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves.com for another run down on todays surf and weather conditions around Bali. First up we better say thanks to Scotto for coming up with some more fresh photos from Canggu that he took this morning.
I took my first surf check at 6.30am to find a slight increase in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was a a 2.5mtr High around 11.30am and then another dry reef exposing 0.1mtr Low at 6.00pm The wind was light and variable first up but then around 8.00am the ESE-SE Tradewind kicked in with a vengence up to 18knot.
Canggu , I arrived at Canggu around 7am, there was about a dozen surfers on both the sandbar and the rivermouth. The tide was starting to push by this time, and Waves were coming in consistently in the head high range with some sets pushing overhead. One set in particilar closed the beach out. So that one set must have been pushing atleast 4ft. Conditions were not ideal for photos with there being some heavy grey cloud cover. Between breaks in the clouds and timing it with incoming sets I managed to shoot off enough photos to show you all how things were looking up at Canggu today.
I was there for around two hours, when just after 9am the wind began to blow. Not long after that I packed up and headed home. I’m sure that this early morning coud cover will blow away and leave us with another beautiful day on the magical island of Bali. So till next time. Scott
Kuta Reef had some small but still fun looking waves b reaking and woulda probably improved with the tide running in. But by the time the tide peaked there wasn’t much happening.
Middle Reef had some waves in the waist to shoulder high sector and was looking the best bet on the Outer Reefs before the tide filled in.
Airport Left was breaking ok in the 1-2ft+ range as the tide filled in around midday and there was around 20 surfers out there.
Airport Right was also picking up a few waves in the waist to shoulder high range, well there were 2ft backs but the wind was bit too strong. Further inside at Tora Tora there looked to be quite a few surfers in the water and looking at it from behind it didn’t look to bad at all.
Balangan had some nice little waves peeling off when I was cruising past. There looked to be 3ft or head high set waves. But there was also no shortage of surfers towards the top of the tide, I counted around 35+.
Dreamland , I didn’t see any surfers in the water here and it looked like the waves were just breaking onto the sand in shore break fashion.
Bingin still had a few surfers in the water even though the tide was in but I didn’t see any waves breaking as we went past.
Impossibles was breaking in the waist to chest high range and there were a few surfers scattered along the reef.
Padang Padang, flat.
Uluwatu was picking up the best waves down along the south end of the island. There was around 30 or so surfers spread between Temple’s and the Main Peak with the set waves pushing through at head to head high plus.
Weather wise it was kinda 50/50 blue sky and cloud earlier this morning then around midday it was just hot and sunny here on the holiday island.
Swell Forecast (1st July – 6th July). Ok I’ve just had a quick brouse of whats happening down in the Ind ia n Ocean and it looks to me like wave height is going to be slowly tapering off over the next week. But we should still have some waves in the shoulder to head high plus range at locations known for picking up swell, eg: Uluwatu, Keramas etc. Then anytime from next Friday onwards it looks like there’s some serious swell going to be hitting Bali / Ind onesia . So I’ll keep an eye on he charts and keep ya’s in the know. At this stage it’s looking real positive.
I’d just like to let everyone know about the “Coca-Cola for Bali coastal clean up day†being held at Legian beach 13th July 08 at 8.00am. For more information on this gath ering go to this link for the full run down. https://www.baliwaves.com/Content.aspx?Page=Stories&Section=Read&ID=43
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time !
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta and the Aussie dollar is just getting stronger and stronger, currently 1AU$=Rp8,875 while 1US$=Rp9,220 Give or take a hundred Rupiah.

Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$600.00 !!! Start organizing your crew now for the recommencement of these charters in March 08. Better still charter the boat privately with up to 10 of your friends for AU$6,000. all inclusive.
If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Best Regards from the No.1 surfing holiday destination that’s got it all, BALI , see ya’s here in 2008
