****EVENING SURF UP-DATE**** Hello again friends and here’s the latest photos Scott has delivered to us this evening. And this is what he had to say about todays session down at Uluwatu. “Today I checked the net to see if the contest was on at 7am and it was on hold. I decided that I would head down anyway as they were bound to be free surfing. Sure enough when I arrived on site the contest was still on hold till 12.00pm. They were going to run an expression session at 11am with the local boys, but by that time I had enough. Not feeling 100% today with a touch of the flu trying to attack me at the moment so I headed home early.
I did however manage to get these photos for you lot, and the Pro’s were putting on a show. It was a whos who of the top 44 making the most of less than crowded conditions at this magical reef break. I counted 30 in the water surfing between the main peak and the racetrack. There was about a dozen up at temples and Bobby Martinez was scoring some great waves up that way. Fred Pattacia was laying down some solid lines as was Puncho Sullivan.
As you can imagine, with the talent on display at the moment the level of surfing was very high. You can still access the site if you wont to have a look but security is pretty tight. You have to come in the old way but it could be worth the effort to see the top 44 tear into this famous piece of reef.Ok thats it for me. Till next time. Scott!
****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** G’Day surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report coming to ya’s from the No.1 surfing holdiday destination of Bali.
This mornings 7.00am surf check of the Outer Reefs was showing another savage drop in wave height as expected. But still enough energy out there to get out and get wet with 2-3 footers breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was a 2.3mtr High @ 10.00am and then we’ll see a 0.2mtr Low around 4.30pm. Wind direction is coming outta the ESE-SE upto 12knots and straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu.
Unusually small crowds out surfing the Outer reefs this morning when I checked there woulda only be around 15-20 surfers on Kuta Reef and then maybe another 15-20 surfing at Middle Reef. But down at Airport Left with the drop in wave height the usual contingency was back out there.
Swell Forecast (29th July – 4th August) So as I mentioned already pretty small surf around for the remainder of today the 29th. But hold onto ya hats because starting tomorrow the 30th we should have some solid waves hitting our reefs that will hold through into the 31st then slightly dropping off a touch. Then right behind her we have another swell moving into position for the weekend before tapering off early next week. And then there’s even another smaller system behind that !
Weather wise today it’s another Bali classic holiday type day out there. Loads of blue sky and sunshine with some fun sized waves and clean off-shore wind along the beach.
RipCurl Search event was on hold this morning down at Uluwatu with the organizers holding off until the tide starts to run back out. But I did hear there was some pretty hot free surfing going down there this morning. Other news is that the public is allowed down there to watch but only access is from the Temple end staircase and expect a security check or two on the way in. Hopefully tomorrow with another new swell expected to arrive I’ll be heading down there myself to get us some freash photos and video.
I also managed to load ya’s a 2 minute Video Clip from Round 2 at the RipCurl Search so hopefully that’ll be on line and visible any moment now.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and FREE stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room.
For the surfer / fisherman out there, and isn’t there a little bit of fisherman in all of us ? Well you guys can take a look at the fishing report and photos from the last couple of trips out sport fishing here in Bali
Don’t forget if any of you lot want to grab some photos or video footage surfing here in Bali and we can easily arrange it for ya.
Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$600.00 !!! Start organizing your crew now for the recommencement of these charters in March 08. Better still charter the boat privately with up to 10 of your friends for AU$6,000. all inclusive.
If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Best Regards from the No.1 surfing holiday destination that’s got it all, BALI , see ya’s here in 2008
