Padma St
Today I went up to the ISC competition at Kuta Beach Padma st in particular, and watched the local professionals tear apart thier break. I only hang around for a few heats but the action was pretty tight.
Earlier this morning at 6:30am I had a closer inspection of the outer reefs. My friend and I headed out to Airport Lefts and caught a few before the crowd attacked. The tide was a little low and so the waves were not running right through. It was however getting better as we left albiet the wind was pretty damm strong. Sets were pushing head high and definelty a bit of fun for the 15 or so having a go. There was another 15 or so over at middles and this probably would have been a better choice first thing on the lower end of the tide. It was just high enough where we were though and I caught maybe half a dozen waves to get through another day in paradise.
By the time I got home and organised enough to head up to Padma st it was about 10am. The waves were pretty nice hitting the bank at around chest high on the sets. There was one wanna be surfer who got himself in trouble with the water patrol. But seriously can’t people see large scaffolding, hear commentators blaring on loud speakers and a mix of competitors and on lookers on the sand. Not to mention the life gaurds blowing whistles and waving frantically for him to padldle away from the competitors area. Alas the poor guy drifted straight into the line up and through a prefectly forming set. He very nearly had himself sliced by one competitors turn when he couldn’t get out of the way. Lucky it was not another learner or he could have been taken to hospital with a board imbedded where it was not meant to be. He did however manage to get dumped on the sand rather succesfully and walked back up the beach. Ok lesson of day look around before you enter the water, know your capabilities, and may be learn in the white water until you can stand up and trim.
All in all the cloud has started to blow away, the weather has warmed up, and from the cold start we had in the morning, things are looking pretty sweet. I think Slim may have been down at Uluwatu so I’m sure he is scoring some pretty sweet goods down there in the 4ft+ range.Till next time. Scott.
