****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hello crew and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves.com for the latest surf and weather info your going to find on the net. Not to mention all the other helpful stuff that might just help your next Bali surfing adventure run all that smoother.
Well my day started off at just after 5.30am when one of the boys from here at Home Base was knocking on my door and raring to go get some waves. Needless to say I wished him all the best of luck and went back to sleep, I had other plans for today. Today here in Bali is a very special day for the Balinese Hindu, Hari Raya Galungan. So by the time we finished our ceremonies here at Home Base it was time to hit the road to check the action down at Uluwatu. Tony, my early rising guest had already returned from a two hour paddle at Middle Reef on the Outer Reefs. Tony said it was great being the first one in the line-up and there were some nice head to head high set waves coming through as the tide hit the bottom of a 0.3mtr Low at 6.30am. But he said by 7.00am there woulda been somewhere between 20-30 surfers out there with him so it was time to head in for breakfast.
So we hit the road for Uluwatu. As ya’s can see in these photos I shot this morning wave height was a good fun sized 2-4ft (chest to head high plus). There were around 50 surfers spread out from the Main Peak to the top of the Racetrack section. Up at Temple’s there were also some nice 2-3ft+ waves coming through and I did see a couple of run for a good 100yrds or so. Another slightly amusing thing that was happening at Uluwatu this morning was someone attempting to ride Uluwatu’s Main Peak on a “stand up paddle boardâ€. Talk about “totally unsociable surf craft†and not suited for Uluwatu, that’s for sure.
We hung out in the cliff side café’s of Uluwatu until 12.00 noon and seeing as the wind was starting to swing a bit more SSE and slightly cross-shore we decided to pull the plug and head for Home Base. Driving past Padang Padang and the very top end of Impossible’s Reef I was pretty surprised to see there were around 30-40 learner surfers in the water. I also have another friend who has been staying down at the once and secluded Balangan Beach. He now says that since Dreamland has been wiped out it appears the Euro contingency has now moved into Balangan and an average of 30-50+ surfers in the line-up on any given day…
Weather wise an overcast start to the day here in the Kuta / Tuban area of Bali but there were the odd flashes of sunshine throughout the morning. Right now at 2.30pm there’s still a bit of cloud about but there’s also plenty of blue sky as well. Our top temperature woulda hit 29 degree’s Celsius while the water temp is still a cool 19 degree’s Celsius.
Swell Forecast: (21st -26th) Ok well I’ve just had a quick peak at whats instore for us over the next week and it’s not looking to good but there’ll still be waves around for us all the same. Small waves over the remainder of the week, kinda yo-yo’ish, up and down with the tide. Then around Saturday we should see a neww swell fill in the gaps and provide us with some more opportunities and open up a few more locations.
Bali Fishing New’s ; Yesterday I finally got around to loading up some of the photos I’ve taken of some of the fish we’ve caught over the last 4 weeks. Plus a bit of a run down on what we’ve been up to. You can find that on our Fishing Report Page in the Reports Menue.
Exchange Rates ; Well the way the Australian dollar has been crashing the last couple of weeks it’s been hard to say what it’s doing today but it would be still ranging between Rp7,950 – Rp8,000 depending on location. While the US$ is still pretty stable at Rp9,125.
G-land, drop us an email if you want to cash in on the 10% discount offer at the G-Land surf camp.
The boys from Kandui Surfing resort in the Mentawai’s have also sent us some sick sick photos of there recent swell and you’ll find those on there surf report page. Plus the crew from Macaroni’s Surf resort have also sent us new photos and surf reports from their part of the Ments.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and FREE stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk.
