****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** OK so today I was down at Uluwatu as the tide bottomed out at 8:30am. It was a reef exposing low tide and on arrival there was only half a dozen surfers trying to take off on the racetrack as they drained dry. The crowd only started to grow as the tide turned and started its push back in. I stayed around till 11am and the reef was being covered and by then the crowd had grown to about 30 on the main peak and another 20 up at temples.
The waves themselves were not real conisistent with quite a wait between the set waves. The bigger ones were nudgeing 3ft. Not real Uluwatu but the boys seemed to having fun none the less. There were plenty of people hanging about on the beach, enjoying the sunshine and the low tide which makes the little beach through the cave accessible. Others were swimming in the water holes left in the reef. Locals were fishing, or swimming and it appeared to be a pretty busy day down on the bukit for many people.
Ok so the forcast swell hadn’t arrived while I was on location but there hopefully will be some better waves tomorrow. I know I have not taken fresh photos for a few days but a friend was over from OZ. I hadn’t seen them in a while so I was playing catch up. But things will be getting back to normal now and as, 5 days was enough to get an itchy trigger finger. So thats it enjoy this latest lot even if it is only small its still a bit of Bali island magic. Till next time. Scott.
****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Good morning my fine friends, Bali beach bums and thanks for tuning into your baliwaves.com for another round of surfing and weather info.
This mornings 6.30am surf check of the Outer Reefs was looking like everything is on track re our swell forecast. With a change in swell direction and slight bump in wave height, so hopefully by midday / early afternoon our wave situation will keep improving. Actual wave height between Kuta Reef and Aiport left is still smallish at 1-2ft+, but there are waves being ridden on Middle Reef as I type. The first of our tides today is going to be a 0.5mtr Low @ 8.30am and then she’ll be running back in for a 1.9mtr High around 2.30pm. Once again the ESE-SE off-shore Tradewind isn’t mucking around and already gusting up to 12 knots.
Ok Scotto has already hit the road for Uluwatu and phoned through that wave height down at Ulu is pushing head to head high plus along the low tide Racetrack section. And when the tide starts to run back in the Main Peak should be producing some nice waves. Hardly any surfers down there for the early paddle with only 8 riders in the water at 8.00am. So Scott will have some fresh photos for us when he gets back to Home Base after lunch. BTW; the surfer currently pictured in photos 1-3 didn’t recover from that heavy slash, for those wondering if he did or didn’t.
Weather wise today more cloud cover to start us off again and I gotta say it’s been pretty weird weather around these parts. Usually it’s just repetitively blue sky and sunshine from sun up till sun down around this time of the year. Anyway we should see some sunshine at some point in time today.
While your waiting for Scott to do his thing why don’t ya check out our photo Gallery for August. Yesterday I loaded up another 90 photos of the best of the best. And don’t forget if you’ve got any questions or just want to say hello feel free to drop us an email through our CONTACT link.
Swell Forecast: (21st -26th) Ok well I’ve just had a quick peak at whats instore for us over the next week and it’s not looking to good but there’ll still be waves around for us all the same. Small waves over the remainder of the week, kinda yo-yo’ish, up and down with the tide. Then around Saturday we should see a neww swell fill in the gaps and provide us with some more opportunities and open up a few more locations.
Bali Fishing New’s ; Yesterday I finally got around to loading up some of the photos I’ve taken of some of the fish we’ve caught over the last 4 weeks. Plus a bit of a run down on what we’ve been up to. You can find that on our Fishing Report Page in the Reports Menue.
Exchange Rates ; Well the way the Australian dollar has been crashing the last couple of weeks it’s been hard to say what it’s doing today but it would be still ranging between Rp7,850 – Rp7,900 depending on location. While the US$ is still pretty stable at Rp9,100.
G-land, drop us an email if you want to cash in on the 10% discount offer at the G-Land surf camp.
