Hello my fisherman friends and I thought I better load up some new photos of what we’ve been upto on the fishing scene around Bali and of a quick trip I took over to Sumbawa for a spot of surfing and of course fishing.
Well the fishing scene has been pretty good around Bali the last month except for the last few days when we’ve been buffeted by howling off-shore’s courtesy of our local Tradewind which is pretty common through August. There’s been some days when the average catch has been anything between 20-40 fish all averaging in the 4-8kg class. With the jigging method being the most productive. But trolling 12-16cm lures behind the boats have also taken there share of Spaniards and GT’s.
The first few photos were while I was over in Sumbawa and it wasn’t long after I set my two trolling rods that I had two very nice and very fiesty fish peeling line off, and virtually both at the same time. Which made things very interesting to say the least. What seems to be the norm around these parts is that anyone who owns a boat can fit it out with the latest of equipment and technology, but in my opinion it all comes down to experience in selecting the right lures and making sure they are running true.
The rest of the photos I snapped while cruising around Bali sport fishing Balinese style with my local fishing mates. We don’t do too bad in our little (27-29ft) double outrigger canoes and if need be we can cruise anywhere from Tahnalot in the north west all the way around to Nusa Dua. All in the one session.
The last photo I loaded up is of my good friend Mr Michael Owen. Michael is a shore fishing extrordinair to say the least. He specializes in catching these monster GT’s standing on reefs and off beach’s all over Indonesia. This specific fish he caught tossing poppers into 5-6ft of water. Michael is currently fishing and surfing over at the G-Land Surf Camp and from all reports he’s already filled all the freezers in camp.
