****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Good morning crew and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for more surf and weather info straight outta the No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
So this morning I had some high hopes of making the run down to the bukit and seeing Padang Padang going off. Not to be today unfortunately. I took my first surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban at 6.45am. To me it looks like wave height has peaked over night and not quite as big as it was yesterday evening just before dark.
Actual wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left is ranging between 3-5ft+ and once again we have a light on-shore wind coming outta the WNW @ 2-5knot.
The first of our tides today is going to be a 0.5mtr Low @ 9.00am and then folled up with a 1.6mtr High @ 3.00pm
Kuta Reef had around a dozen surfers out there early but the tide was already getting to low. Some solid waves coming through in the 4-5ft range but tending to double suck. Maybe if the wind doesn’t get too strong, or even better if it swings around to the ESE there will be some good waves around midday on KR.
Middle Reef didn’t have any surfers on it when I was down on the beach. There were some big lulls between the set waves and when they did come through it was pretty much just shutting down in the 4-5ft+ range.
Airport Left wasn’t picking up even half as much swell as Middle’s or Kuta Reef and looking very ordinary at 2-3ft.
East Coast ; talking to some friends this morning who were surfing over on the other side of the island yesterday and they reckoned that Nusa Dua was cranking through the morning and then Sri-Lanka was not too bad through the afternoon. The East Coast would probably be the best call for clean surfing conditions again today.
Weather wise it’s a pretty fair sort of day coming on here on the holiday island. Some cloud patches drifting across but mainly just another hot and sunny day in stall for the lucky buggers on vacation.
Swell Forecast (21st – 27th) The swell that we currently have is expected to slowly taper off in size over this week and by Thursday back in the 2-4ft range depending on location. Then on Friday we should see a new medium sized swell appear on the reefs around Friday producing more waves through the weekend.
Tuban Beach Extension Project ; Well as some of you may already know there is a major project underway to extend the beach (push back the tide) out into the ocean between the Kartika Plaza Hotel all the way down to the old Holiday Inn Hotel. I have over the last few months posted some photos of the beach erosion that has been caused from the construction of new sea walls. At the moment they are pumping huge amounts of sand onto the beach in the hope that it will stay where it has been dumped. Only time will tell what will be the outcome, I took some more photos with my mobile phone camera this morning and I’ll load them up into the Kuta Cam Gallery at some stage today. I also should say there was no known studies done on the impact of this project, no meetings or open discussions with the local fishermen, it was just full steam ahead and damn the torpedo’s. I haven’t meet one local who agree’s with the beach extension project.
