Oct 25th surf report
The winds were lightly blowing out of the southeast this morning. There was no sign of our new swell yet. Most the guys went for a hike around the west side of the island to kill some time, and by the time they got back around noon the swell was starting to show. We took a look at Hideaways because of the moderate south winds that were blowing by then, but not a lot of swell was making its way in there, so we headed back and surfed 4 Bobs. It was a little bumpy, but the winds backed off late in the afternoon and it was actually pretty glassy. The swell just got bigger and more consistent as the afternoon wore on and we surfed it most the time with no one else out. There were even a few waves that were going four feet overhead or so. We are on Rifles alert tomorrow morning, hoping the swell will be big enough to pump some waves in there for us.
Oct 24th surf report
Things were looking pretty small out front today. The wind was blowing out of the
south so that did not help our cause. Every place that was pulling in any swell at
all would be onshore. The World Series was on so that filled the morning. Late
morning we headed out to look for waves. The biggest spot was Burgerworld, so we surfed that even though it was pretty bumpy from the now eastish winds. It was
still good for some fun. Things should start looking up tomorrow as a new swell is
expected to start showing by the afternoon.
Oct 23 surf report
It was looking smaller out front this morning. The wind was out of the north and
blowing pretty hard. It had rained all night and the dark sky made it look earlier
than it was. Watching game one of the World Series sounded better than looking for surf in that wind, so we sat around and drank coffee and ordered from the kitchen all morning. By around the 7th inning, whatever time that was, the wind really backed down and we were quickly in a boat to check our little spot. It was smaller today, only going head high on the sets, but the wind was better and it was still plenty fun with no one else in sight. The wind backed down even more and we started to think about Burgerworld. We cut our session short to eat lunch and blaze over there. When we got there, there were more boats than we were counting on, but Burgerworld can handle a fair amount of people so we gave it a go. Good thing because many people got out and we all got plenty of waves. The wind could have been better. It was blowing from the south, which is straight onshore, but it was light. The waves were a little overhead on the sets and plenty fun. They say the swell is supposed to get even smaller tomorrow.
Oct 22 surf report
Sorry for the gap in the surf reports! I was in Padang for a few days visiting
Jenny who is three months pregnant. Radical! Looks like there will be a gap in the surf reports come late April as well. It sounds like the guys had fun while I was
gone. Nothing epic, but overhead waves at Bankvaults and Nipusi. The winds were mostly north, so it was offshore at those spots. They say today was a small as it has been since I left. 4 Bobs was looking about knee high out front and the wind was out of the northeast. Nipusi would have been good, but we figured it would have every boat in the area there so we checked a little simi secret spot we have up our sleeve. It turned out to be a good call. The wind direction was not the best, but it was still side-offshore and there were overhead sets. It was hitting the reef pretty good so barrels were common, both right and left. We surfed it all morning. In the afternoon, we decided to have a look at Nipusi. There were some head high sets and it was clean, but it was busy as well. Should have just stuck with our other spot. Expecting smaller surf tomorrow.
