Gold Coast / Australia……… by Scott Thompson (Scotto)
Ok so I have been back in Australia a little over two months now and the surf
has been unbelievably bad. Apart from about two days during the week about a month ago now there has been bugger all. Today there is a good increase in wave hieght with sets starting to nudge the 3ft mark. These current waves are predicted to stay around tomorrow and then back off again into the current norm of 1ft slop.Heading down to Duranbah beach this afternoon and the every man and his dog was trying eleviate all that pent up wave starved stress. I counted about 60+ surfers in the water and more going in all the time. The wind was howling out of the south east at about 20+knots and making conditions abit choppy. With waves on offer though not to many appeared to worried about that. I hung around D’bah for about 45minutes and then headed home. I drove past snapper and there was a large crowd trying to catch the 1.5ft waves running down the bank. I didn’t have time to do a head count on the way past but having a guess at around 60+ again, probably more. Conditions although alot smaller, were much cleaner because of the added protection created by the headland.OK so with no swell to speak of so far from the past two months hitting the Gold Coast, and nothing on the horizon things are pretty grim. ON the other hand I would like to Wish everyone and a Merry Christmas and hoping you all have a safe new year.Lets hope 09′ brings on a new swell and offshore winds. till next time,
Scott
