D-Bah (almost Gold Coast) surf report
This morning the 7th January I checked out the beachies for my morning surf. It was
not so clean, showing signs of the northeast wind having got into it over night. I
stayed out for about an hour and half and caught a couple of waves. The best thing
about it was crowd avoidence. You would find most people on the points of either
Snapper, Currumbin or Burliegh. So instead of a couple of hundred there was only a
dozen. If it had got too crowded then I could just paddle up to the next peak, easy.
So taking care a few bits of business once I got back home, I managed to get back
down the beach later in the afternoon. I headed past snapper and it was pretty
crowded, a little messy, but no shortage of people on the beach and in the water. I
would have shot photos but could’nt find a park. Instead I drove over the hill and
found a park at D’bah straight up. So that was my job made easy. I sat up in the
sand dunes with the 600mm under a small tree to find some shade away from the
scorching heat we have at the moment.
I counted around 45+ in the water at D’bah, and some georgous talent on the beach.
Hey this is the Gold Coast and talent is pretty commen on any given day.. Love it.
OK I digress.. The waves were around the 3ft mark on the sets, having dropped off a
touch. It was wind affected, and pretty messy, the wind was blowing in at about
12knots+. I didn’t stay to long, just enough to take a few photos and give you all a
look at conditions here at D’bah on the Gold Coast.
Today the 9th January and the swell has dropped back into the 1-2ft range. With the
high tides now peaking in the mornings the beachies are the go. Hit the points later
around lunch time, or alternatively go check out the single fin comp at Burliegh
which is being run from today and over the weekend.
Till next time. Scott.
