****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hello surfers and welcome back to the baliwaves.com for the start of another year of surf and weather reports from your favourite surfing holiday island of Bali.
Well I hope the New Year started off better for you than what it has for old Slim . Coming home on my trusty old motorcycle (250yrds distance) from a highly enjoyable afternoon of cheers n beers down at the beach with my local friends. My dog, well not my dog but a local alfa mut who has claimed me as his friend decided he’d cut me off on the road and clipped my front wheel putting me and the bike into the curb. With the result being me ending up with a nasty road rash down my right leg and foot.
I have to admit I was a lucky man, hey, no helmet and just a pair of boardies and thongs. So just remember if your planning on renting a “scooter” while here on holiday be bloody careful. Because If I can come unstuck after riding all types of high powered motorcross bikes over the last 30yrs of my life, you don’t have a chance !
Alright so I’m posted here at Home Base for at least another week until the skin on my leg and foot grows back. So unfortunately there’s not going to be any new photos… But what I have done is loaded up 6 new images from the Balinese funeral / cremation that I attended on New Years Eve.
Surf wise today , we’ll here on the Outer Reefs wave height was only pushing the waist to head high range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. And according to my source there were surfers out riding on all 3 main sections this morning.
Wind direction was coming straight out of the West in the 4-9knot class and did increase upto 12knot and swing more SSW by midday.
Over on the East Coast the boys from here at Home Base said that Serangan was ok kinda cross / off-shore and breaking in the 1-2ft+ range. Secrets at Padang Galak was cross / on-shore in the 1-1ft+ range. Keramas had some nice waves in the waist to head sector but as everyone tends to agree these days has become one of the most crowded waves on the East Coast only second to Serangan.
Weather wise today it’s been basically hot and sunny all day and still is now at 3.45Pm
Don’t forget you can drop us an email through the “Contact” link if you have any questions that might help your next vist to the holiday island run a bit smoother.
The good guys from the Macaroni Surf Resort up in the Mentawai Islands have also sent us through an “end of season” wrap up and included some super special deals for anyone wanting to get in early and book for the coming 2009 season. So check that out on the Macaroni Report under Surf Reports.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you will find that 1AU$=Rp7,585 – 1US$=Rp10,650 give or take 100 Rupiah.
I also just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.

If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
