Well last couple of days we have had some very clean and consistent waves in the 4-5 ft range. Conditions have been perfect, with either no wind or light off-shores. It has just been the 3 of us plus the crew aboard Southern Cross which just arrived yesterday. We had a great morning and arvo sesh on Monday, followed by a trip to Greenbush, then another late arvo sesh at Macas which was pretty special for all of us.
On Monday arvo, we sat in the line up with just 5 guys out (same all day), an incredible sunset covering the sky with perfect 4 ft waves peeling down the point with cylindrical perfection. The boys were stoked to be scoring fun barrels, with conditions absolutely perfect. Even a couple of dolphins decided to pay a visit to the line up, as the boys from Southern cross and Macas Resort traded waves til dark, in fact myself and Dan got out of the water with a full moon not quite bright enough to allow us to continue surfing into the evening.
The following morning on Tuesday the 10th, we were up again at 5:30am, thanks to Dan who has been an early riser since the beginning of the trip. Again we were first in the line up and the boys from Southern Cross gave us a solid 2 hours in the water before they paddled out. We scored some great waves again, clean as, in fact so clean that the lip was hard to whack and the only real option was to pull in and get shacked.
Right now it’s 12:45pm and Southern Cross has just left, no boats left in the bay, and we are expecting smaller waves until Thursday when a new swell is expected to arrive. Until then I think we all deserve a break and perhaps time to check out the village and do a bit of fishing until Huey turns it on again.
We have supplied a few shots of the past 2 days, a sample of what we have been getting, taken by us when somebody has been in the boat. Prior to this we have also had very fun waves all week in the 3ft+ range, although a little inconsistent with a longer wait between sets.
Just to sum up, Dan who is visiting from Snapper Rocks on the Goldy who has surfed Indo many a time and around Hawaii, said on Monday that it was ‘the best days surfing of his life’, taking into account we were surfing virtually on our own all day with just 1 visiting boat and perfect conditions.
And for the next swell, there is only 1 boat we know of in the vicinity, the boys from Southern Cross who we were surfing with the other day, so for this next swell we are hoping for similar conditions.
Word around the traps is that many charter boats do not have booking for the 2009 season, as a result of the global economy crisis and the fact that charter boats usually do not take singular bookings, but instead group bookings.
So this season, early season especially, is a prime time to be visiting Macaronis Resort to score some perfect Macaroni with just you and your mates, plus also visit other classic waves in the area aboard Indies Explorer.
Trips are from just US$1350 per person for an 8 day / 9 night trip, so contact us now to reserve your spot. We still have heaps of room left in March and April.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
