****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Welcome aboard the baliwaves.com for the latest news on whats happening surf and weather wise here on your holiday island of choice, Bali.
Well still plenty of waves to be had today with this mornings surf check of the Outer Reefs showing wave height although dropping off holding in the 2-3ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were and still are pristine with the aid of a fresh off-shore ESE-SE Tradewind that kicked in around 8.00am, and gradually increased into the 8-14knot range by midday.
Kuta Reef was peeling off some nice little waves in the waist to head high plus range but there was no shortage of surfers in the line up. I counted around 35+ surfers at 8.00am. Middle Reef was breaking pretty good and wave height was coming through slightly bigger for the half a dozen riders out there. While Airport Left has had a turn around crowd wise with a surfer count of just 3 and plenty of waves up to head high on the sets.
I was out in the boat having a bit of a troll for pelagics this morning so I got to have a look at all the different breaks from Kuta Reef to Nyang Nyangs. First of all Balangan was looking ok lining up in the 2-3ft+ class and at the time there were only a handful of surfers sitting on the point. But I think the days of Balangan being a laid back un-crowded location are numbered. Not that long ago there used to only be 3 little warungs (cafe’s) on the beach, today I counted 14 and the beach covered in umbrella’s gearing up for the season. Next stop was Bingin but the tide was running in fast and the swell also appearing to be backing off by mid morning, wave height looked to be in the waist to chest high plus. Impossible’s had a few crew spread out along the reef waiting for the chest to head high sets. Uluwatu looked the pick along the Southern end of the island, wave height was hitting the Main Peak pretty hard for the 20+ surfers in the 3-4ft+ range. Around on the South eastern end of the island I was surprised to see Nyang Nyangs breaking cleanly with the set waves easily over head and no surfers in sight.
Tidal info for today was calling for a 2.5mtr High @ 10.00am and then a New Moon reef exposing 0.2mtr Low around 4.00pm.
Weather wise today it’s been blue sky and off-shore wind. Temperature wise the mercury would have levelled off around 29 degree’s celsius.
Ok folks I’ll be heading back out with the camera gear tomorrow so stay tuned through the weekend and we’ll keep on delivering the good to ya’s from Bali.
BTW, todays fishing only resulted in one 16kg Giant Trevally….
Cheers
Slim
