****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
G’Day crew and welcome back to the baliwaves.com and hopefully today we can show you what conditions were like down at Uluwatu here on the holiday island of Bali.
Our first surf check was on the Outer reefs here in Tuban and it was showing wave height to have dropped off a touch more but still breaking in the 2-2ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. But that was around 7.00am while the tide was still down around the bottom of a 0.7mtr Low. So we decided on heading South to Uluwatu. Where hopefully we’d get a little more size and pwer.
We were a bit slow off the mark this morning and never arrived down at Uluwatu untill around 9.45.00am. Just as the tide was starting to push back in for a 2.3mtr High tide set for 1.00pm. The best waves were breaking on the Main Peak in the 2-4ft range and there were also a few running down the Racetrack section. Not to mention a few nice ones a bit further to the South..
Surfing conditions were clean and more glassy as the wind had a fair bit of SSE in it and nore quite straight off-shore.
Weather wise not a bad day to be down the beach today. Warm and sunny with a maximum temperature of around 30 degree’s Celsius.
Sms Surf Report from the G-Land Surf Camp was saying wave height was still running in the 3-5ft+ sector. Daily crowds are now starting to get up to crowds of 15-20 spread out between Kongs and the Launching Pad…
Stay tuned we should be seeing another burst in wave height sometime in the next 36-48hrs.
Cheers
Slim
hey slim… just a quick one… what type of body and lens do you shoot with, all of your shots are super crisp… is it a 500mm?
benny
Hey Benny thanks for the feedback, I’ve just changed camera bodies from a Kodak 14mega pix to a Nikon 300D that can now shoot 8 frames per second and a big plus for surf photography. Lens….. I have two old lens, the first and most handy is a Nikor 300 f2.8 which I can combine with a quality 2 x convertor taking it to 600mm if I need it and still able to hand hold it without a tripod. The lens I use when I can get my hands on a borrowed car is an old Sigma 1000mm that must have a heavy tripod to support the weight. NB: all my photos are shot in MANUAL FOCUS, I’ve always shot in manual since the late 70’s and film. 99% of the instant digital photog’s these days all use AUTO FOCUS. Shooting waves and surfers Auto focus is not good enough on average, (my opinion).
