****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Howdy folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com SUNDAY SESSION for the latest info on surfing and weather conditions here on the wave riddled holiday island of Bali.
And right on track as per our swell forecast wave height started to build late yesterday afternoon just as the sun was setting and this mornings surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban was showing some very pretty waves in the 3-6ft range breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Through the early morning lower end of the tide Middle Reef was producing the better waves. But as the tide crept up so did wave height. I did have plans to head down to Padang Padang and shoot ya’s some photos, but after seeing the potential perfection coming on Kuta Reef I put on my poker face and waited. As ya’s can see in these photos I shot from the channel it was smoking through with some sick tubes in the 3-5ft class (head to double head high). And make no mistake, it was crowded. Peaking at around 70 surfers scattered along the take off shelf. Bad manners indeed and even the local surfers were getting burnt by wave hungry vacationers. But still, stand out surfers like team Diverse rider “Sima” and local boat captain “Marlin” still totally dominated wave selection. That’s Marlin in the 10 shot sequence on his back hand riding a dinged up and pre snapped old board. I also managed to shoot 5 minutes worth of DV while I was out there and I’ll have a look at that later tonight and try and cut ya’s a clip.
Surfing conditions today, well the photos say it all. And I must say it was good to get back out there and shoot our own material with the trusty old 8 frame per second Nikon D300 and Nikon f2.8 300mm lens, manually focused of course.
Tide wise the charts said we had a 0.6mtr Low @ 7.00am and then a 2.3mtr High @ 1.00pm
Weather wise here in Tuban it’s been blue sky and sunshine all day with a top temperature of around 30 degree’s Celsius.
According to our daily sms surf report from the G-land Surf Camp the boys and girls “in-camp certainly got what they came for today. Wave height was pushing the 6-8ft+ range over there and peeling off perfectly from Money Tree’s down to the Launching Pad.
Swell Forecast; This new system is really only going to get us through till Friday with waves up to 4-6ft, head high plus to double head high plus depending on location. Then on Saturday backing off again. But then again on Sunday next week it looks like we’ll be in for another solid boost with a much larger system moving in on us. Unfortunately this last system has already been down graded but still should be producing some solid waves. Starting to back off through Monday and continuing to drop through Tuesday. Small waves on Wednesday before we start to see another smaller swell fill back in around Thursday.
Here’s a few tips for any new visitors, 1/ don’t change your dollars to Rupiah at home, you’ll get a much better rate over here in Bali. 2/ If you need to change dollars at the airport when you arrive only change enough to get you to your hotel. The airport also has lower rates than on the street. 3/ Changing dollars with the money exchanging counters on the streets always use the vendors that display a “no commission fee” sign.
Ok friends of Bali thats about me for today but don’t forget to stay tuned right here on the one and only orignial Bali surf report website !

double overhead?….the locals are the worst when it comes to manners . I had my best wave ruined by some young drop in punk [indo] who had only caught the last 23 waves , sh#*s me up the wall.
I hate canadian surfers. They are worse than anyone.
double head high…………
Dan +1
70 people… lovely.
I’m heading there tomorrow for a couple of weeks – just loved hearing about the 70+ guys in the water, makes the crowds at Curlie seem tame!
I surfed midddle on the rising tide and can vouch for the double overhead call. Pulled out of a couple, pulled into a few and got lip launched on a couple too. Reckon I got my biggest wave and longest ride ever in the same session. Woo hoo. Sorry Mike, I surf Curly too and the corner was more crowded but it was WA school hols. Get your boats off the beach in front of Santika, ask for Made, Sonny, etc they surf themselves and will steer you straight. Have a good one.
dan you some times get what you give this may be not always the case but i find if you show them a bit of respect it can come back big time in your vibe in the water and they will let you get your share. do not jump off the boat and paddle to the inside and expect them not to drop in on you i would to on my home break.
