****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for hanging around this afternoon for the latest news on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the obvious No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali. And I do mean that becuase today on location at Keramas all the “rock stars” of surfing were there on tap, both International and local.
I was sitting at home this morning contemplating on where to go and shoot some photos as I knew the swell had kicked in. But that dilema was soon answered for me when a friend of mine named Devis Ratif called and said lets do Keramas today. I was a bit concerned about the wind not being clean enough, but on arrival Keramas was clean as a whistle breaking in the 3-4ft+ sector (head to almost double head high). We also picked up a another well know local surfing identity along the way, Pepen Hendrix.
But there was no shortage of big names in the water today with International giant “Parko” and everyone’s favourite surfer and ex-Newcastle boy, Luke Egan. That’s just to name a couple, let me tell ya’s there was absolutely no shortage of surfing talent at Keramas today. There was also no shortage of shiny new camera equipment either.
Surfing conditions were still clean and glassy when we arrived at 9.30am and when we left at 12.00 noon surfing conditions were still all but perfect.
Tidal info for today was a 0.5mtr Low @ 6.00am and then a midday 2.4mtr High. Then we’ll be finishing off the day with another reef exposing 0.1mtr Low around 6.00pm.
Weather wise it was a bit of a nightmare photography wise and continually changing from light cloud cover to heavy cloud cover with the occassional patch of blue sky and sunshine thrown in.
Sms surf report from Lakey Peak was saying that the Peak was pulling a solid 6 feet this morning and that there were waves from lakey Pipe all the way down to Periscopes. Total number of visiting surfers currently in the area still standing at around 160.
Sms surf report from G-land that came through at 10.00am Bali time was saying that wave height was hitting the Launching Pad at a very solid 6-8ft and there were even a few rogue’s running all the way down through Speed Reef (Speedies). 10 surfers in the water at the time.
G-land; Ok the 10% discount for the early bookings into G-Land has finished but we are still prepared to give anyone a 5% discount on standard packages, and a 10% discount on air conditioned bungalows. So drop us a line if you want to head over to G-land.
And don’t forget to drop me a line if your looking for some surfer friendly accommodation here in Tuban / Bali (the quiter end of town). Right here at Home Base we have single rooms for US$15.00, US$18.00 for couple’s & US$25.00 for a twin share room. All rooms have Air conditioning, hot and cold water, tv, refridgerator and large private bathroom. 300mtrs back from the beach in front of the Outer reefs here in Tuban.
Surf Board special offer; It just so happens a friend of mine here in Bali is holding 3 brand new boards, never ridden or even waxed and is offering them at a special price of AU$525.00. These aren’t back yard or pop out boards either made by one of the most reputable shapers in Australia. Sizes are 6’3″ & 6’6″ So if your after a high performance new board drop us an email and I’ll put you in touch.
Swell Prediction; Ok well here’s my interpretation of what we can expect swell wise over the next week. Late Tuesday afternoon we should see a small swell start to show boosting wave height back into the 3-5ft+ range. This will take us through to Wednesday afternoon before starting to fade on us. Then come Friday another similar sized system should give us some more waves through till Sunday. Further out in the Indian Ocean there is a solid swell moving our way and fingers crossed that should be here by next Tesday / Wednesday. NB: since I wrote this info this swell in transit has been down graded but still going to produce some waves. Even further out for some time around the 13th-14th fingers crossed we’ll get the big daddy.
Ok crew, take a flick through todays photos and I also managed to shoot a handful of DVD minutes which I’ll shape into a short video clip for ya’s ASAP. Other than that we’ll be back with more of the latest news from Bali again tomorrow.

Slim,
you run a great site most of the time, and I love Bali/Indo, having done 15-20 trips over there but how on earth you say 3-4ft is head to double over head high is just bizarre. How many milkshakes (think about it) had you drunk that morning??
Hi Slim,
Thanks for the photo’s and #15 $$$$$shot! Pete,,some measure face value and others from the back like Hawaiian scale. Three feet is head high with 4 being a few feet overhead. Most people use the face scale now including the National Weather Service here in Hawaii. I don’t think its the milkshakes,,,just a few Anchors. Terimah Kasih, Made GREG
Hi Pete, I don’t really know anything about you, same as you don’t know anything about me I’m thinking. Wave height well you just make your own call on it no problem bro. But I can’t see the justification of people riding head high waves and saying they were riding 6 foot waves…. I also don’t know how long you have been “a surfer” for, not that it matters to me. When I was going through my grommet hood, it was simply a 3′ wave is head high, a 4′ wave is a few feet over head and a double head high wave was 5′. 6′ and it’s starting to get pretty big. So no ofence taken from me and I hope that clears up your concerns on wave heights 🙂
But as for milkshakes, your the one who better not have too many of those, if your already forgetting how many trips to Indo you’ve done……. Thanks for the feed back Pete !!!
Ahhh Mr Greg, thanks you also for your comments this morning and I use that same rule of wave measurement as the nice folk in Hawaii. But whats this about drinking beer in the morning bro… I’m an afternoon sunset social drinker as you know 🙂 And yep when I shoot photos GG, you can count on the “money shot”
NB: Mr Greg, has been surfing here in Bali / Indo a lot longer than most of us and lives and runs a guest house in hawaii with his Indonesian wife and children.
