****MIDDAY SURF UP-DATE****
G’Day crew and welcome back to the baliwaves for todays news on surfing and weather conditions here on the holiday island of Bali.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was as expected still only showing wave height to be trickling through in the ankle to knee high class between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The wind was also a bit stronger coming out of the West @ 4-7knot and has since then swung further to the WSW-SW.
The boys and I from here at Home Base was hoping that Keramas would have something worth surfing so that was our first stop. Nope, nothing happening at K-mas with wave height only in the ankle to knee high range and at least 30+ surfers in the water. So we back tracked to Serangan to find 50 surfers in the water with a very weak looking knee to waist high plus wave. But it would have been all time for the Russian and Local surf schools that were operating. Further down the highway at Nusa Dua there might have been a touch more swell and possibly in the waist to head high range, probably the best bet for the morning paddle.
Tidal info for today had a 1.6mtr High @ 9.00am and then shell be running out for a 0.8mtr Low around 3.00pm.
Weather wise there’s still been no sign of rain, just blue sky with a maximum temperature in the low to mid 30’s (Celsius).
The stink is back along the beach between Kuta to Seminyak. I’m sure anyone who is staying close to the sand or frequenting the beach along that stretch has noticed the strong fishy smell in the water. Caused by the anual Pilchard run that has been on over the last week. These small Sardine like fish have been schooling in huge numbers just out behind the waves along Bali’s most popular stretch of beach. Which the local / Indonesian fishermen from Jimburan Bay have been netting non stop. Now the cause of the smell is that once these fishermen’s boats are full they just simply throw whatevers left in their nets into the water to wash up on Kuta to Seminyak beach.
Swell Prediction, (this still stands) Nothing in sight on the radar over the next 7 days. More small to micro sized waves ranging between 1-3ft depending on location.
Holiday Season up-date, If any of you guys and girls have been here in Bali through the Christmas / New Year period then you’d know what to expect. For those of you that haven’t it’s the time when just about every Indonesian living outside of Bali decides to drive their car here. The end result is traffic KAOS for anywhere in the Kuta to Seminyak area, and I do mean traffic grid lock. Anyone who hasn’t had their hotel booked for at least 1 month in advance hasn’t got a chance. This all starts anytime in the next week or so and runs through till just after the New Year. It has begun !
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$15.00 (Rp150,000) per night (single) or US$18.00 (Rp180,000) for a couple and US$25.00 (Rp250,000) twin share. Then drop me an email but usually we do need a few weeks notice.
We are also now sending out brief random surf reports and ravings through Twitter mobile phone service so sign up today !
As you all know we have been trialing a new photo viewing program to make it easier for you to flick through the photos on site. Ok, as you also should know is that we highly value our advertisers / sponsors, as they help pay our running costs / bills etc etc. So at the end of the trial period (1 month) if our advertisers / sponsors are still getting the same amount of views and visits then we will keep this system in place. If not then it’ll be back to the old system !!! So please make the time to visit the good folk who help keep the baliwaves on your monitor.
Now’s also a good time to start planning your 2010 Bali / Indo surf trip. If it’s an island hoping adventure on a live aboard surfing charter boat make sure you take a look at what the boys from www.indoocean.com have got on offer for you. G-Land, start getting your friends together for the ultimate surfing adventure at one of the surfing wonders of the World. Check out the guys at www.g-landsurfcamp.com for the experience. How about totally spoiling yourself at one of the private island resorts (Kandui / Macaroni’s) up in the Mentawai’s ?
I’d also just like to give a plug to Patrick at Global Chiropractic located here in Bali. If any of you are ever in need of a professional Chiro in Bali Patrick is the man to see. If you want to contact “the man” you can contact him directly by email, [email protected]
Stuck for accommodation ? Drop Michael Owens a line if your after a fully self contained and very comfortable apartment in Kuta, I can’t believe it’s still available through the Chrissy and New Year period, so get on it fast.
We’d also like to wish all our supporters the very best for Christmas and the New Year !
Best Regards from Bali
