****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves to get the facts on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the surf sun and fun holiday island that’s got it all in one package, Bali.
Well after this mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs was showing wave height to have dropped away to a measley 1-1ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The boys and I from here at Home Base made the decision to head over to the East Coast to Bali’s now famous Keramas. It was a tough call, as first of all the wind was light on-shore here along the West Coast. Coming out of the NW @ 1-3knot. But the weather forecasters were calling for more ESE direction. And according to “Murphy’s Law” once we were half way there the wind did swing to the ESE. But we were comitted and I was still counting on finding some clean and glassy conditions without the crowd.
As my photos show that’s exactly what we pulled up to. Clean and glassy waves peeling off in the 2-4ft (chest to well over head) range. And with only 11 other surfers in the water the boys (Gold Coast father and son team Brendan and Mitch Duggan) were frothing to get out there. Even though the wind was blowing light on-shore out of the ESE-SE surfing conditions remained clean through till the end of their second session, now with only 6-8 surfers in the water. I’d have to say that young 17yr old Mitch Duggan was the stand out surfer at K-Mas today.
Tidal info for today had a reef exposing 0.2mtr Low @ 7.30am and then running back up for a 1.8mtr High around 2.00pm.
Weather wise, well I was standing out on the black mineral sand in the open shooting photos for 3.5hrs and I tell ya’s it was bloody hot. Temperature wise at Keramas it woulda easily have been in the mid 30’s on the Celsius scale.
I’ve also got another batch of photos brought into us from our friends at Hendra Surf Photography down at Uluwatu. So I’ll try and get those up into the Readers Report page for you later this evening.
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$15.00 (Rp150,000) per night (single) or US$18.00 (Rp180,000) for a couple and US$25.00 (Rp250,000) twin share. Then drop me an email but usually we do need a few weeks notice.
We are also now sending out brief random surf reports and ravings through Twitter mobile phone service so sign up today !
As you all know we have been trialing a new photo viewing program to make it easier for you to flick through the photos on site. Ok, as you also should know is that we highly value our advertisers / sponsors, as they help pay our running costs / bills etc etc. So at the end of the trial period (1 month) if our advertisers / sponsors are still getting the same amount of views and visits then we will keep this system in place. If not then it’ll be back to the old system !!! So please make the time to visit the good folk who help keep the baliwaves on your monitor.
Now’s also a good time to start planning your 2010 Bali / Indo surf trip. If it’s an island hoping adventure on a live aboard surfing charter boat make sure you take a look at what the boys from www.indoocean.com have got on offer for you.
