****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
G’Day folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com for the run down on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.
This mornings 7.00am surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was showing a slight increase in wave height with 1-2 footers (knee to waist high) breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. There were even a few surfers in the line up on Kuta Reef and Airport left with the tide starting to push in. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with no wind present at the time.
As you can see in these latest photos I’ve loaded for ya’s today I risked life and limb taking the bike ride down to Uluwatu hoping to find a little more power and size. NB: it is pure hell on the roads at the moment with a huge influx of domestic tourists driving like maniacs but not knowing where they are going.
I arrived at Uluwatu around 10.00am to find wave height in the 2-3ft range with the occassional bigger set wave hitting the Main Peak. By this time the wind had started to pick up coming out of the SSE @ 7-10knot. Surfing conditions as ya’s can see were still pretty clean on the Main Peak and virtually still clean off-shore down along the Racetrack section. Alas it was a free for all again down at Ulu with everything from Mal riders to stand up Mal’s and learners on Mal’s. But it didn’t bother the local groms who were in total control of it all.
Coming back to Home Base past Padang Padang and Impossible’s there would have been lucky to be an ankle high wave breaking on the top end of Impossible’s and dead flat on Padang x 2.
Tidal wise today we had a 1.6mtr High @ 10.00am and then she’ll only just be running out for a 0.9mtr Low around the 3.30pm mark.
Weather wise we’ve had a mainly overcast day with the odd burst of sunshine. Temperature wise it would have only made 28-29 degree’s Celsius but coupled with a very high humidity. Right now at 2.00pm we’ve got some very heavy looking rain cloud moving in over the Kuta area to relieve us of the humidy.
Swell Outlook for the next 7 days is showing a another small spike in wasve height on Wednesday through Thursday. And then another small swell arriving on Saturday to take us through the weekend. But it’s anyone’s guess what direction the wind will choose.
Kuta Beach fish stench up-date; While the wind turned back to the ESE we lost the stink of dead fish along the Kuta to Seminyak stretch of beach, with the off-shore wind carrying the dead fish and their smell away from the shore. And the net laying fishermen from Jimburan Bay really stepped up their operation with at least 40+ boats operating less than a kilometre out from the shore. This morning the local Kuta Council held a meeting to put an end to the boats working close to the beach, and hopefully an end to the once beautiful stretch of beach being littered and bombarded by the stench of roting fish.
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here at Home Base in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$16.00 (Rp160,000) per night (single) or US$19.00 (Rp190,000) for a couple and US$26.00 (Rp260,000) twin share. Then contact slim.

As you all know we have been trialing a new photo viewing program to make it easier for you to flick through the photos on site. Ok, as you also should know is that we highly value our advertisers / sponsors, as they help pay our running costs / bills etc etc. So at the end of the trial period (1 month) if our advertisers / sponsors are still getting the same amount of views and visits then we will keep this system in place. If not then it’ll be back to the old system !!! So please make the time to visit the good folk who help keep the baliwaves on your monitor.
Best Regards from Bali
