****MORNING SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for dropping by the baliwaves.com for the last report in 2009. Troy and Slim would like to thank everyone who has been following and supporting our website and especially the companies that have used the baliwaves to promote their stuff. We wish everyone the very best of everything in 2010 ! Peace & Harmony !!!
What we started to do almost 12yrs back with a one paragraph surf report and 4 digital photos from my first digital camera (0.8 mega pix loaded directly onto a floppy disk). To what it is today, we’ve come a long way. At that time there was only 1 other website for Bali which was a travel forum site. Now I think there are around 50,000+ websites on Bali, but the baliwaves still rule’s the roost. (It’s definitly not the best paid job I’ve ever had but it is the best job I’ve had ! This month I earned a whopping AU$145.00, but still enough for me and my family to get by on. Living in Bali for me in the beginning was all about the surfing lifestyle, and it still is today. What else can a surf bum do ?, except maybe go fishing…. So thanks again for all your support and we’ll be doing our best to keep baliwaves.com the most up to date and informative Bali surfing website there is on the net in 2010.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban still has wave height in the 1-2ft range with the very occassional 3ft or head high set hitting Middle Reef. Kuta Reef and Airport Left were in the knee to waist high range. Only 2 surfers in the water on Middle Reef at 7.00am.
Surfing conditions this morning are clean and glassy with the wind coming lightly out of the North at 1-3knot.
Tidal info for today has down for a 1.7mtr High @ 11.00amand then a 0.8 Low around 4.00pm. Today also has a Full Moon rising so at least we’ll be seeing better tidal ranges over the follow 3-4 days.
Looking for a wave today there’s a few options for the surfer here on holiday, here along the West Coast the best conditions would have to be up at Balian, Canggu would also be clean off-shore and improving on the run in tide. Middle Reef as I mentioned and further down South Balangan and of course Uluwatu.
Weather wise today we’ve got light cloud cover but no chance of rain and fingers crossed it’ll hold off for tonights party people.
Swell Outlook for the next 7 days is showing a another small spike in wasve height on Wednesday through Thursday. And then another small swell arriving on Saturday to take us through the weekend. But it’s anyone’s guess what direction the wind will choose.
Kuta Beach fish stench up-date; While the wind turned back to the ESE we lost the stink of dead fish along the Kuta to Seminyak stretch of beach, with the off-shore wind carrying the dead fish and their smell away from the shore. And the net laying fishermen from Jimburan Bay really stepped up their operation with at least 40+ boats operating less than a kilometre out from the shore. This morning the local Kuta Council held a meeting to put an end to the boats working close to the beach, and hopefully an end to the once beautiful stretch of beach being littered and bombarded by the stench of roting fish.
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here at Home Base in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$16.00 (Rp160,000) per night (single) or US$19.00 (Rp190,000) for a couple and US$26.00 (Rp260,000) twin share. Then contact slim.
We are also now sending out brief random surf reports and ravings through Twitter mobile phone service so sign up today !
Our New Photo program that we have been trialing has turned out to be a success and we’ll be keeping it. Our page view statistics show that our sponsors have been averaging pretty close to the same traffic as before, so a big thanks to you guys and girls.
Best Regards from Bali
Slim
PS: now get ready to PARTY !!!!
Hi Guys
As a life time surfer 50/60 range and been to bali for the first time 4yrs ago even though my friends went in early 70s Because of business i have had the good fortune to go the last four years and enjoy the surf there . its has been so beautiful to the experience the beauty of the island and the people . i have really enjoyed your site thru out the year daily and i appreciate your vibe . that wave wave height is a tricky one but it is so great to see the experience of surfing live on and expand and in general keep close to nature for most surfers and is also great to see this site ( and i dont know you from a bar of soap) promote that feel . I also understand the plight of the young locals surfers and the power of sponsorship but being in the clothing industry (womens not surf) i see the power of the big company moving in Hey guys as i said i dont know you personally but know lots of the people that make commemts or that you mention. you do a great job great site and the whole world loves balian but no one owns it just like noosa happy new year
Are there any regular footers in bali? wouldnt be able to tell from your ulu photos. ha :P.
I miss bali, wish i had no mortgage, I would go there twice a year.
