****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello crew and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions today here on the surfers choice of holiday destinations, Bali.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban went down at 6.15am. It was good to see a definite improvement is wave height with 2-3 footers breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The best part of it was knowing that it was only going to continue to build through out the day. At the time there were already two early birds on Kuta Reef catching waves up to head high. Middle Reef was more consistant being better suited to the lower end of the tide. Later this afternoon when I checked again, around 1.00pm there was now 3-5ft set waves breaking (head to double head high). Although be it a little inconsistant and a tad on-shore. But still some walls peeling off on Kuta Reef with 12 surfers in the water.
Surfing conditions this morning were clean and glassy with just a hint of Northerly showing in the wind. But by around 9.00pm it had shifted more around to the WNW and increased up to 7-9knot.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 2.4mtr High @ 10.00am and the running back out for a 0.3mtr Low around 4.30pm.
Weather wise it’s been mainly overcast again today with the temperature still sitting around the 30 degree mark now at 2.30pm
Sms surf report from the people at the G-Land Surf Camp was saying wave height was hitting Kongs and Money Tree’s at a solid 3-5ft but the crew at G-land were still sitting it out hoping for the off-shore wind. No surfers in the water at the time of the report. Hopefully soon we’ll start receiving some photos from G-land, another reason to stay tuned to the baliwaves.com
Photo up-date; Our friends from Hendra Surf Photography down at Uluwatu have dropped off another handful of images they shot down there yesterday afternoon. Check out the Readers Report to see how it was.

MAKE BALI BEAUTIFUL ( AGAIN )
Gday , Been back in the clean Gold Coast beaches in Oz for now for 2 1/2 months and I already miss indo and those perfect waves and smiling faces , but after looking at the photos of the locals ripping at canggu , theres is a photo of a guy with a fishing net that disturbs me, and that photo reminded me of the gross amount of rubbish there is in Bali.
Ive lost count of how many time ive tried picking up rubbish in Bali , and I have not been able find a rubbish bin anywhere (except in kuta) and ive even been asked by locals why am I even picking up the rubbish? which I then let them know how important it is for the environment and for thier future prosperity . There are local volunteers organised to clean Kuta beach on sunday mornings and congratulations and hats off to each and every one of you . But everywhere else is filthy!
Opinions are slowly changing and paper and plastic bottles are now recycled which is great , but its still not enough.., heres where we can all help as surfers…, but Bali needs help and suggestions about how to make it work.
Firstly – Rubbish Bins are needed at beaches …, Unless its Kuta beach, or out the front of a 5 star hotel , it seems the government doesnt care enough to do anything about it . But we surfers care – RIGHT ?…… Together we could buy rubbish bins – can we ?
Secondly – bins need to be emptied , I was at a spot just north of padang galak and there was only 1 rubbish bin, and it was totally overflowing with 200 times more rubbish around the bin than was in it, and the wind was blowing the rubbish all over the beach. It also seemed perfectly natural for the food cart patrons to throw thier rubbish anywhere and everywhere, without even looking or thinking about somewhere other than the beach to throw thier rubbish
Thirdly – and most importantly .., Education is the key , a change of peoples thinking will take time and its up to the young to teach the older people to try and keep the island clean for theyre own good. Rivers are regarded as rubbish dumps for toooooo many people.
There are already some good-doers talking to local banjars(community groups) and educating people , and we can do this also , but only if its in a NON Blaming and NON critical way . People must hear in a POSITIVE TONE, words like …,
” It would be good if that rubbish was not here, then the fish would not die and Bali would prosper forever ” .
How can enough money be raised for the bins, and for them to be emptied reguarly , and more importantly – how can awareness be raised as to not litter in the first place …???????????????????? Ideas wanted ! Do you care ?
Slim your website seems to be viewed by more visiting surfers than any other, and it has been used as a platform to raise money for good causes before (bravo) , and once a good solution and plan is thought out by it readers , it could be used to help again im sure .
As individuals we are helpless , as a group we could make a difference – what do you all think about this problem ?

Yeh Davo the pic with the rubbish was pretty raw. Surfing out at Canggu when the river is flowing can be shitty. Here in Perth we have a problem with rubbish, with most of the cities rubbish tips stretched to their capacity within the next ten tears. New tips need to be established which takes time and will be further out of town which will end up being costly. Rubbish bins at beaches is a start ( a good start) and Education is extremely important. The tips of Perth are overflowing with a population of 2 million people. Bali and its population of 3 million people is going to need the relevant finances and infrastructures to ensure that rubbish is taken away and stored/destroyed in a suitable place. Education is needed to highlight the importance of looking after the environment and to change peoples mind set. Indonesia’s got some huge rubbish cess pits and the last thing we want is for Bali to become another Indonesian cess pit

James you are right about my situation ,”if only” , after a 6 month indo trip and a hefty credit card debit, I still have no job, although I will be starting work as a carpenter soonin the remote mines of W.A, where apart from work work work for a while I will not have much time on my hands, But in the meantime will attempt send emails to Indo tourism and government departments to plead for a media campain to combat the rampant littering problem which is the Main issue. , When things pick up financialy for me and I return to indo I would definatly contribute towards this worthy proposal as best I can and do more legwork and see people and drum up support etc , and yes I do pick up rubbish whilst in indo .
More to the point though is ive never organised anything much more than BBQ’s and a few small scale charity fundraisers, I am inexperienced at this and need help from others who care, may it be helpfull information as to which way to go, or conacts, anything? , or maybe someone has had experience this kind of thing before? …, this may just fall on deaf ears , but id like to think not .
In order to try to help we must start somewhere Right .
PS – I dont think the Bells contest is important at all – Unless those surf industry marketeers were to use there skills to raise awareness and money for this worthwhile cause. I wish rip curl would even pay for the media campain (so far the indo Govt wont) … that reminds me , too send an email to Rip Curl \.
Peace.
