****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello crew and welcome back to the baliwaves.com for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions here on the No.1 surfing holiday island destination of Bali.
Another early morning pick up for Slim so there wasn’t even a glimpse of the Outer Reefs with the sun not yet up. We were on our way back up to Canggu to catch the final day of surfing at the Oakley Pro 2010 6 star event. Todays surfing conditions at Canggu were almost a carbon copy of days 1, 2 & 3 so the event was scheduled to kick off at 8.00am. I was mainly concentrating my shooting on the free sufing that was going down (or I should say going off) on the Sand bar section. With some sick tube threading, as you can see in the photographic evidence in todays gallery.
Wave height was still a consistant chest to head high with occassional 4 footers hitting the sand bar and the right hander on the river mouth where the contest was running. Clean as a whistle conditions through till around 10.30am before the wind swung more to the ESE-SE making it a little cross/on-shore.
The eventual winner of the Oakley Pro was Made Awan from Serangan and to get the full run down on the event have a click on the Oakley Banner over on the right hand side of the page.
Weather wise we had a a bit of a mixed bag with sunshine and the occassional cloud cover shadow. Later this afternoon around 3.30pm there was also some rain here in Tuban. Temperature wise the mercury would have easily busted the 31 degree Celsius mark.

Hi Slim,
The Oakley Pro sounds like fun. I am visiting Bali in a couple of months and just wanted to know which beach you would suggest for beginners. Im very concerned about getting injured in reef breaks but my husband tells me that its easier to catch a wave. Are there any beaches in Bali that you would suggest would be good for a beginner and any surf camps you would suggest?
Thanks for your help eh!
a real beginner should most likely stick to beaches…
Hi Slim,
Im keen on helping out the local community in Bali in exchange for some cheap accom an suggestions would be much appreciated
